INTRODUCTION

Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones

to keep." (Scott Adams). Art and education effect each other and even have
some common areas. The child comes to the world with an innate capacity
to learn. Art and Art education helps a child to blossom like a perfect flower
with all its colour and beauty.

Art and Art Education

 Meaning

Art and art education is related with aesthetics part of human development.
There is no universally accepted definition of art though. Art is related with
beauty but that's very vague as concept. What is art can be understood by
variety of activities under the area of art.

So, what is art?

Origin of the term art is in Latin word "ars" meaning skill or craft. This
origin sums up that art is a body of knowledge which is born out of set of
skills. Art has different types and classification: also, contradictive views
too. Traditional and contemporary art encompasses activities as diverse as:
Architecture, music, opera, theatre, dance, painting, sculpture, illustration,
drawing, cartoons, printmaking, ceramics, stained glass, photography,
installation, video, film and cinematography, to name but a few.

All these activities are commonly referred to as "the Arts" and are
commonly classified into several overlapping categories, such as: fine,
visual, plastic, decorative, applied, and performing.

Most dictionaries define art as 'an expression or application of creative skill

and imagination, often through a visual medium like painting, or 3-D media
like sculpture.
To define art education, it is broadly the process of teaching and learning
how to create and produce the visual and performing arts. This also
includes how to understand and evaluate art forms created by others.

 Scope of Art Education

Pablo Picasso once said" The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life
off our souls." We, lesser mortals probably won’t be able to fathom this
wide effect of art in first hand but we do get it already that art is centered
around life and celebrates life experiences. Scope of art education is wide
and multi faculty. Some of them are Curriculum supports creativity and
expressions are enhanced as students are inspired to think out of box.

 Art education enables the learner to become aesthetically competent

and professionally skilled.
 To think in broad aspects, art is the oldest courses in the history of
mankind. Even the time line approves the wide range of scope
 Provides students with various choices in vocational field.
 Art education opens up opportunity to pursue further higher studies
or train to be professional, any path the drive works for student
 A person in need of creative expression gets a guidance through art
education. Otherwise, most of the time one has to compromise their
interest and drop out.

As understood from scope, art education has a wide range of differences.

But these differences are mostly because of the medium used to express
artistic ways. Forms include–

– Drawing
– Painting

– Ceramics

– Photography

– Architecture

– Sculpture

– Conceptual art, etc.

Among different styles of art which include–

Impressionism Expressionism Surrealism popular art etc.

AESTHETICS

The word aesthetics is derived from Greek word ‘Aesthetikos’ means sense
perception.

Aesthetics is a branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of art, beauty,

and taste, with the creation and appreciation of beauty. It explores the ways
in which objects are experiences by the senses, as well; it focuses on
feelings of pleasure and displeasure rather than on the practical functions
of things.

Aesthetics is commonly defined as the study of beauty, and its opposite,

ugliness. Some philosophers conceive of aesthetics as applying solely to the
arts or to artistic experience.

The aesthetic dimension of education is concerned with developing a sense

of appreciation for beauty and creativity in various art forms such as music,
visual arts, drama, and literature.
SIGNIFICANCE OF ART IN SECONDARY SCHOOL EDUCATION

There are many positive effects of arts education in several areas including
students’ intrinsic enjoyment, art form knowledge and skills, social and
cultural knowledge, creativity and thinking skills, communication and
expressive skills, personal and social development, effects that transfer too
other contexts (e.g., learning in other subjects, work-related benefits such
as teamwork), culture of the school, and benefits to the local community.
Following points will discuss in detail the significance of arts for the
secondary school students:

•It makes knowledge interesting.

• It develops aesthetic sense.

• Correlation with other subjects.

•Practical and manual training.

• It saves time.

•Art makes other subjects easy.

•Mental training through hands.

• It develops creativity.

• It helps to acquire habits of concentration and application.

•Aesthetics development.

• Art fosters the power of imaginations, observation and initiatives.

•Art develops memory, illustration and nature drawing.

•It develops a person psychologically.

•Art develops an individual morally.

• It develops a person intellectually.

• It develops a person socially.

1. Arts makes knowledge interesting: With the help of art, we can make the
dull theoretical subject easy and interesting. When we add a visual form
with any theoretical subject or topic it becomes very interesting. For
example, a dull subject like math’s, if we are going to teach a child
addition or subtraction, instead of writing 2+2=? We can make the
figures of 2 mangoes and 2 bananas. Then when we ask the students to
count, they will count the things Fastly because it is an interesting game
for them. Same we can do in case of geography, language etc. So, art is
very much helpful in making the knowledge interesting. When we tell a
story to the children the effect is less on them. But when we show the
pictures related to the story then tell them the story with the help of
picture, it will affect more and they will show more interest and their
learning power will increase.

2. It develops aesthetic sense: Art helps in the aesthetic development of a

person and along with aesthetic sense, self-expression and the Rasa
(feeling of beauty) is also developed. With the help of art, a person is able
to appreciate and criticize a work of art. With the help of aesthetic sense,
we can make a thing beautiful. Otherwise without art, for e.g.
Architectural designs of cities would be reduced to logs of cabins,
without any sculpture we would no monument. No coined money, no
mural decorations no illustration will be there. So, it is the aesthetic
sense which helps a person to make the Things beautiful and attractive.

3. Correlation with other subjects: By correlating the dull theoretical

subjects with art, we can make them more interesting and easier to
understand. We can motivate the learning power of the students and
make the understanding level higher by correlating the two or more
subjects with each other. This will save the time of the teacher as he can
teach two subjects in one period. Here the correlation of art with some
other subjects is given below as example.

a) Science: Student having the knowledge of art can draw diagrams

and can do their practical work etc. more nicely like parts of body,
parts of flowers & plants etc.
b) Geography: Drawing of maps, graphs, bar diagrams, etc. showing
different places etc. can be beautifully done. Areas can be marked.

c) History: History is the knowledge about past life of the man, how he
lived, kings of that period, all these things can be easily shown by the
students having the knowledge about art, like the king, His portrait etc.
can be drawn for better understanding.

d) Economic: Drawing of graphs, demand, supply etc. these can be

shown better by the student having knowledge of art.

e) Math’s: Geometry, whole of it is the representation of different

shapes etc. which can surely be done well by the art students.

f) Language: It Is the skill of writing & expressing one’s emotion Which

can be surely done as well by the artist person.

g) Craft: Craft and art are very closely related. Especially in the school,
student who is good in art will surely do well in craft also.

h) home science: Art is helpful in arranging and decorating the things

in a room, setting of a kitchen etc.

4. Art helps in achieving better Grades in Examination: A student can get

more marks if he knows the drawing. By drawing the diagrams &
representation, he can make his paper effective. It improves the writing
of the person & leaves good impression on the mind of the on looker.

5. Practical and manual training: Art develops in a man practical abilities

and skills. It develops motor activities of a person and his observation
power. Only on the basis of art, this practical ability can be developed in
the students. Practical work and skill are very much important in the
field of education. We can develop the hidden talent of the students with
the help of this skill. There are many crafts which are introduced in
primary classes. For example, wooden craft. Gardening, pottery etc. Here
when the practical and manual training is given to the students, this will
further help the students to adopt these crafts as a profession for their
future. This practical and manual training will increase their confidence
and develop their skill to the best.

6. It helps to save time: When art is correlated with other subjects and two
or more subjects are taught collectively then the time of both the teacher
and the students is saved.

Secondly when the topic is taught with audio-visual aids, students take
more interest and learn more in less time. The reason is that half the work
is done when we show the aid or picture related to the lesson, surroundings
and environment or regarding the school curriculum. The students can
understand themselves by looking at that particular picture. Teacher’s work
becomes less and easy. So, it saves time while teaching.

7. Art makes other subjects easy: Art is very much responsible to make
other theoretical subjects easy to understand. Art is the basis of all the
audio-visual aids. Because only with the help of art (drawing), we can
draw and paint a picture or we can make a “model. These audio-visual
aids help the students to clear those facts and concepts which are not so
clear to them. It Is also helpful to teach the child second language
different from his mother tongue. For example: If we want to teach him
about the English word ‘C’ if he has no knowledge of English, ‘c’ value is
nothing to him. But when we make a picture of cat with 'c' and write on
the one side cat, that becomes meaningful for him. Any correlating art
with the language, can make learning easy.
8. Mental training through hands: Art gives mental training and helps an
individual to develop his mental power. It develops imagination power,
learning power, observational power, comparison quality etc. All these
powers are very much useful for a person in his life. When a person
develops with all these mental developments, he tries to use it with his
hands for example when he looks at a beautiful landscape or scene he
puts in into his memory and with the use of his hands, he draws his
imagination on the paper or the canvas. So, art gives mental training and
develops skill in a period.

9. Art develops creativity: Art is the best medium to develop creative

expression among children. Art itself depends on creativity. It also gives
opportunity to create new things. It develops creative emotions in the
minds of the children. For example, in a class if we give a topic to the
students to make a poster on drugs addiction. No two ideas will be the
same. Every poster will be different from each other because every
person is unique and thinks according to his own way of thinking and
choice. It Is the creativity of the minds of the students which helps to
make a poster. Surrounding and environment which gives the idea to
student’s creativity gives us the opportunity to create a new order of
reality, its knowledge and understanding. Its function in education is to
create intelligence.

10. Art helps to acquire habit of concentration and application: When a

person draws & paints a picture, he first of all “concentrates over the
scene which he wants to draw. Then he cares r the drawing or sketching
i.e., if it is similar to the imagination or not. And after drawing a pencil
sketch, he concentrates on the colours which he wants to use in his
painting. So, we can see the concentration first and after that application.

11. All round development: Art is the best way to express one’s views, ideas,
emotions and expression. It given freedom to the mind. It is very
psychological in nature, it directs emotions. It gives e pleasure and
relaxes the man’s mind. It helps economically as a man can earn his living
by adopting art as a profession. It makes a person socially reliable. It
develops in a person all the moral qualities for example patience,
endurance, satisfaction etc. It is a skill and the applied arts which needs a
great intellect. So, it develops a person intellectually, when he gets the
training of these skills. By looking at all these facts and figures, we can
imagine the contribution of a person. Art is very e much responsible for
the all-sided development of a person.

12. Art fosters the power of imagination, observation and initiatives: Art is
very much responsible for the development of these qualities. First of
everyone who is willing to make a painting, a sketch, a portrait, a still life
or a composition, he has to observe the surroundings and environment to
get the idea for his drawing or sketching. Secondly the has to set in his
mind these ideas. Only then he will be able to imagine a new creative idea
for his painting. Then he will take the initiative to start his work of art.
Without sound observation and imagination, it is impossible to create or
think about a scene. These are the basic requirements for drawing. When
a person develops these qualities, then these will help him in other
subjects of education too. He can write beautiful poems, paragraphs,
prose etc.
13. Art develops memory, illustrations and nature drawing: When an artist
looks at a scene in the nature, he tries to keep in his mind. As Keats says,
“A thing of beauty is joy forever”. To make his Joy forever, it is very
essential to memorize that scene. Only then he can use it in his
illustrations and paintings or poems. They’re only the memory of a thing
will live forever in his mind if he tries to memorize it. This will help to
concentrate and imagine properly, to make his new creative idea on the
canvas, in education also, it is very essential for a student to learn and
memorize subject matter very perfectly. Only then he can use it in his
exams or in creative thinking.

14. Art develops an individual psychologically: Art helps the students to

relieve to a great extent from the burden of theoretical tyranny of purely
academic and theoretical instruction. It creates balance between
intellectual and practical experience. This is the active knowledge which
helps an individual, how to obey life circumstances, studies or bookish
knowledge. They get themselves busy in their work of art and enjoy
themselves.

15. Art develops a person morally: Art creates in a person a sense of

satisfaction. He develops the qualities of patience, because he does his
work with great ease and comfort. Art develops the aesthetics sense, to
look for beauty etc. Art makes a person humble, honest and truthful. And
this way helps a person in the development of his moral character.

16. It develops a person intellectually: Art is a skill and the applied arts
needs a great intellect. To create pleasing forms, like pottery, manual
works like embroidery etc. all need a great intellect.
17. It develops a person socially: Art makes a person socially reliable and
self-dependent. In the realm of art, the manual work is of great
importance but in one society, it was seen as a degraded job, but now an
artist enjoys an equivalent status as a man sitting on the desk and
working. Moreover, art as a hobby as well as profession is of utmost
value. A student when learns some applied arts and makes it a profession
later on he enjoys and satisfies his inner appetite and on the same time,
gets the reward for his work.

Art helps the child to live more graciously in school and out. It provides an
outlet for his thoughts and feelings and for his creative imagination. It gives
him increasing power over materials and the ability to improve his
surroundings. Art education stimulates a growing point in the child’s
mental and spiritual make up. Thus, the teacher must provide the
atmosphere and the material within which this unfolding can take place.

Role of Aesthetic Dimension in Education

 In education, the aesthetic dimension helps to develop a child’s

creativity, imagination, and emotional intelligence.

 Aesthetic education involves exposing children to various art forms

and encouraging them to engage in creative activities, such as
painting, drawing, singing, and acting. This exposure helps children
develop a sense of beauty, taste, and aesthetics.

 Aesthetic education is not only important for developing creativity

and imagination in children but also for fostering critical thinking
skills.
 Through the study of art, children learn to think critically and develop
their analytical and interpretive skills. For example, analyzing a work
of art requires careful observation, interpretation, and evaluation, all
of which are important skills that can be applied to other areas of
learning.

 The aesthetic dimension of education is also important for fostering

cultural awareness and appreciation. Through exposure to art from
different cultures, children can learn about different traditions,
values, and beliefs, and develop a deeper understanding and respect
for cultural diversity.

In conclusion, the aesthetic dimension of education is an important aspect

of developing well-rounded, creative, and culturally aware individuals. It
plays a crucial role in the development of a child’s cognitive, emotional, and
social development.
Passion For Pot Decoration.

People of all ages enjoy the experience of decorating commercially made

flower pots.

Objective.

Art painting lessons incorporate art history, aesthetics and criticism with a
hands-on activity. It focuses on design elements essential to working on a
curved surface, colour theory, painting technique and fundamental
technical skills.

Instructions

Firstly, purchase a ready-made flower pot from a garden supply store and
be sure the pot has no cracks or chips. The size should be large enough to
work so, and a comfortable size could be chosen.

Secondly, the pot should be fired once before decorating. Then clean the
surface of the pot with any oil or grease. The preliminary firing also makes
the pot vitreous.

Now paint and draw with liquid colors preferably fabric or acrylic colors
and also apply 3-4 coats to give a finished look. There should be self-
expression, freedom to create real or abstract. There should be abstract
scenes or designs by using wheels so that all sides of the pot are decorated
evenly and while painting it should be put upside down. Because in this
way it is easier to decorate small bottom of the pot.

Sponge painting is also very useful. Darker color should be used before
applying the lighter shades.

Lastly, once the painting of the pot is done, it should be kept for drying.

These decorated flower pots make a wonderful gift for all kinds of
occasions. Also, in school the class teacher or Science teacher can put plants
in the decorated pots for a complete gift.

Display decorative flowerpot filled with green plants in school or

principals' desk or office. It will look bright, give positive vibes, add
distinctive touch to this school, also developed a passion for POTS among
parents and teachers and obviously students.
RANGOLI

Rangoli, one of the most beautiful and most pleasing art forms of India, is
comprised of two words, 'rang' meaning 'color' and 'aavalli' meaning
colored creepers' or 'row of colors'. Rangoli is a Hindu folk art generally
created on floor on special occasions. The origin of the art can be traced to
the Puranas. Rangoli basically comprises of the art of making designs or
patterns on the walls or the floor of the house, using finely ground white
powder along with different colors. Numerous households in the Indian
subcontinent make use of Rangoli designs for decorating the courtyard of
their house.

Simply put, rangoli means row of colors. The tradition of rangoli making
originated in Maharashtra. Rangoli art is known by different names in
different parts of the country, such as:

 Chowkpurana (Uttar Pradesh)

 Madana (Rajasthan)

 Muggu (Andhra Pradesh)

 Rangoli (Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra)

In the northern parts of India, Rangoli designs are made with traditional
wet colors. On the other hand, in the southern parts of the country, Rangoli
patterns drawn with the help of powder colors are more common.

The Rangoli represents happiness, positivity and liveliness and is intended

to welcome the LAXSHMI, the Goddess of wealth and good luck.
Creative Expression

'Rangoli' is a Sanskrit word, signifying a creative expression of art by

means of colors. In ancient times, beautiful rangoli patterns and designs
were made on the entrances of Indian homes for beautifying them and
welcoming the guests. Besides a creative expression of art, they were also
considered a symbol of good-luck. Ours is the culture of, “Athiti Devo Bhava”
means “Guest is God”. So, what can be better than rangoli in expressing this
cultural mannerism and hospitality that we possess by tradition. Although
rangoli is made on many occasions in India, but the Diwali festival
witnesses the greatest use of rangoli. People made rangoli on the entrance
doors of their homes on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, not only to
welcome guests, but goddess Laxmi (the goddess of wealth and fortune).

The formation of an ideal rangoli art demands the attentive use of vibrant
rangoli colors on a properly broomed and cleaned floor. However, rangolis
are simple two-dimensional designs, but even the modern three-
dimensional art becomes graceless before them. Freehand use of vivid
colored powders is made while making a rangoli. The most common way of
making a rangoli is to pinch the thumb and the forefinger and let the color
to freely run out from the gap.

Rangoli was one of the major decorations or embellishments in the ancient

times, but they have not lost their charm even in the modern context. These
traditional embellishments are still used in India on various festivals and
special occasions like marriages, birth ceremonies, and so. Although rangoli
making is a popular art across India, but they are like a tradition in
Maharashtra, where they are most prevalent. On the Diwali festival, people
usually make various types of geometrical patterns and designs between
which they place oil lamps (diyas).
Instructions To Be Followed to Make Beautiful Rangoli.

drawn or you can create your own design. Rangoli designs are
symmetrical in shape.
2) Wipe the floor and let it dry. With a piece of chalk, draw the outline of
the rangoli design.
3) Now fill in the outline with rangoli powder. Take care that the different

very commonly used and made.
POSTER MAKING

A good poster Works in many ways. It can be a good advertisement for an

area of work, a great way to raise awareness about an issue. The following
are the outlines of principles and processes of what makes a good poster.

Procedure or steps to be followed in poster making:

1. Planning of poster. 2. Layout. 3. Using images and graphics 4. Clear use of

text

5. Using colors effectively.

Planning of Poster

A poster is not a wall mounted essay. The aim of the poster is to grab the
attention of your audience. All main points and conclusions must be clear
and concise. Most important point is to look for word count specifically
minimum and maximum, orientation and size of layout and logos.

Effective communication begins with knowing who your audience is. The
poster is there to get your message across and it is of no use if a person
looking at the poster doesn't understand it. Make the main headings large
and to the point.

Layout

The most important aspect of any good academic poster is that it is easy to
follow. There should not be too many items closely packed on the poster
which makes it hard to read. The method should not be cluttered. From the
design point of view, attractive posters have a good balance of images and
text across the entire area of the poster.

Using images and graphics

Images and graphics used should be relevant to the subject matter, clear to
the point and attractive. It should be clean and simple to understand, but
most importantly show relationship as clearly as possible.

Use of text

For the ease of readability, it is recommended that the text and poster
elements are arranged properly. Main title should be large, bold text to
define the column heading. Try to avoid large paragraph for text. You have
bullets should be done. Avoid using script style of fonts as they are difficult
to read. A short and clear title gives the reader an exact idea of what the
poster is all about.

Using colors effectively.

Choosing the right color scheme is also very important. Background and
colors should be subtle to enhance the nature of the subject as opposed to
distraction from it.
WALL HANGING (Recycled)

"One person's trash is another person's treasure”.

But, when you or anyone looks at a big pile of all the discarded stuff, it's
hard to think of it as anyone's treasure!

However, if one applying a little bit of creativity, it can certainly turn

rubbish items into something that was fun.

And that's exactly what we are going to do. Turning old, scratched and
scuffed CDs or DVDs into really pretty creations. Basically, children love
birds and animals. And they relate with them easily. So, we are going to
make some cute bird wall hanging from recycled CD.

Materials required.

1. Old CD or Recycled ones

2. A pair of scissors

3. Glue stick.

4. Glitter paper.

5. Marker pen.

6. Sketch Pen.
Step By Step Instructions

 Cut out the glitter paper in round shape and similar to the size of CD to
make me face of the bird.
 Then draw the other shapes that are required to make the body of the
bird.
 Cut out the shapes of the eyes, wings and any other shapes Which you
have drawn as per the requirement.
 Now apply the glue generously on all the cut-out shapes and paste it on
the CD in sequence to make a bird.
 Now, Mark the mouth and outline for Eye with Sketch pen on marker
pen for a clean and clear look.
 Finally, put a small loop at the back so that we can hang the wall
hanging in kid's room or class room.
PHOTO FRAME

A simple and beautiful way to decorate and preserve your memories and a
contribution to a home project. The photo frame looks lovely as a
decorative piece or as a gift.

Materials required.

 Cardboard Or mount the board or cardboard from old boxes or ice

cream sticks.
 Scale, paper cutter.
 Glue and scissors
 Pencil and eraser.
 Decorative papers, Flower & stones.

and lots of Enthusiasm.

Step By Step Procedure.

Step 1: cutting the front and back card pieces.

Mark. 7 inches wide and six inches height. On the cardboard. By using a
pencil and scale. Cut the paper/board/ice cream stick with the help of
paper cutter/scissors. It is the front piece. Now cut the same size for the
back side of the photo frame.

We are making a photo frame enough for the size of a photo. We need to cut
a window on one of these cardboard pieces. Now, to be extremely precise,
make sure the window is right in the center of the board.

Make a spot using the scale from all four corners/sides to create the points
of a 4*3 inches rectangle window.
Step 2. Covering the card pieces with fancy paper.

Once the front piece with window and the back cover pieces are ready,
cover them separately with fancy paper or handmade paper. To cover the
back of the photo frame, you glue generously to stick the fancy paper on the
card piece.

For the front piece use light colored paper and cut it one inch bigger than
our photo frame. Make a square smaller than the window on fancy paper
and cut it. Make slits on all four corners and the insides of the fancy paper,
so that it can be folded and stuck to the frame. Apply glue and now both the
front and back pieces of the photo frame are ready.

Step 3. Put the front and back of the photo frame together.

Stick both front and back pieces together. Remember to stick only three
sides and leave one side open so that we can slide in the photo of our
choice.

Step 4. Decorating the photo frame.

Decorative flowers, crystal stones or handmade paper flowers can be used

to decorate the front side of the photo frame. Here I have used three
partners to accentuate the look but one can completely cover up the sides.

For making the stand of the frame at the back side, use a small cardboard
piece and stick it on a bigger paper and fold it. Now paste it on the backside
of the photo frame depending upon whether to keep the photo frame in
vertical or horizontal position.

This is how I made the photo frame and it can be decorated and kept at
home as well as in class.
