MYSELF AND OTHERS

All about you

Shutterstock.com/Piotr Wawrzyniuk
Remember when you first started primary school? How did you
describe the older students back then? Were they mean and scary
or friendly and helpful? When you first start school, older students
can seem like the rulers of a kingdom. Now that it is your turn to be
a ‘ruler of the kingdom’ for a while, it is useful to think about who
you are and who you want to be.

So how well do you know yourself? Complete the following activity

then share your life story with the rest of the class.

MYSELF AND OTHERS

You are unique

No two snowflakes, apples, dogs or cats are exactly the same. It is the same with people. We are all different. Our
unique qualities are valuable, allowing us to contribute something special to society.

So what are these qualities and how do we recognise them? The first place to look is at home. Our families and
friends help us discover our unique identity.

Whenever we interact with someone, the way we behave can tell us something about ourselves.

The best of people

1 Make a list of family and friends who influence you most. Beside each person, write down what
you most admire about them.

Mum - Her kindness.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________
Dad - His humor.
Friends - Their perserverance
_________________________________________________________________________________________________
Teacher/coaches - they’re very welcoming

what you hope they will learn from you.

the ability of patience is very important everywhere you go.
Patience is pleasing for others and especially yourself, it keeps you from having to

The things you have written and shared about yourself create an excellent picture of who you are. Even if it is
incomplete it is still special and unique. You are a ‘work-in-progress’ and having a complete sense of who you are and
who you want to be takes time.

Remember, the world is much bigger than your school. You might seem confident to the younger students, but it is
OK not to have all the answers about yourself.

With the help of family and friends, you will get there!
