MOVE-OUT NOTICE
⚫ You are required to submit a “move-out notice” to the ward office before leaving Japan.
*You can start the procedure 2 weeks before you move out.

NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE / PENSION
⚫ Other than submitting a move-out notice, you are also required to cancel your National Health Insurance/National Pension
when leaving Japan.
⚫ If you are enrolled in MEXT health insurance/pension, these procedures are not required. Please consult with your host department about how
to cancel MEXT health insurance/pension.

RESIDENCE TAX
What is residence tax? Our support
⚫ The city where you live on January 1st of this year, will impose you the residence tax. ⚫ Accompany you to the ward office
⚫ If the previous year‘s total income was less than the specified amount or if you are receiving ⚫ Support you with application form

How to pay it
⚫ Payment methods vary depending on when you leave Japan.
1. From January to June
➢ You have to complete the “prepayment (予納)”procedure at the Citizen‘s Tax Section of the Sendai City Hall. You will receive
a payment slip 4-5 days later that will allow you to make your payment.
➢ You can also specify a person, deposit money with this person and ask him/her to pay it on your behalf (this requires
additional procedures; the proxy must be selected and registered by you).
➢ If you need our support, please contact us through the comment section of the Jibun Page.
2. From June to December
➢ The tax will be derived from your last income payment.
➢ If you want to know whether the part of the residence tax that you have not paid can be derived from your last income
payment, please contact your host department. 7
LUMP-SUM WITHDRAWAL PAYMENT CLAIM
⚫ If you have paid pension for more than 6 months in total, you are eligible to claim a lump-sum withdrawal payment.
⚫ If you have stayed in Japan for more than 10 years, you are eligible to receive the Japanese pension.
➢ If this applies to you, please let us know when you request our support.

What is it?

⚫ Lump-sum withdrawal payment applies to those who don’t have a Japanese citizenship but have paid the
pension for more than 6 months.
⚫ If your claim is accepted by the Japan Pension Service, the amount you will receive is determined by the
length of period you have paid the pension.
➢ Please be advised that you will not get the full amount of the premiums that you have paid.

LUMP-SUM WITHDRAWAL PAYMENT CLAIM
⚫ The claim is accepted only after you leave your residence in Japan.
⚫ We recommend that you submit it by mail AFTER you arrive in your country.
What is required?
1. A copy of your passport
2. Residence certificate in Japan
➢ Only the ones you receive after submitting a move-out notice.
➢ We can support you in getting it issued. For this support detail, please refer to P.5.
3. Bank account certificate
➢ Please prepare documents that verifies “Bank name”, “Branch location”, “Bank account number” and “Bank account
holder’s name”.
➢ “Bank account holder’s name” should be the claimant himself/herself.
➢ This must be an official document issued by a bank.
➢ The account is used to receive the payment and can be an account in your home country.

② Prepare the attachment


➢ The list of attachment is presented on the previous page.
③ Send them all by mail to the HQ of Japan Pension Service
➢ Please send it within 2 YEARS after you leave Japan.
➢ Below is the address of the Japan Pension Service.

④ Receive the payment
➢ It is usually paid 4 months after the application.
