(Chapter 2) Computer Hardware

1. Answer the following questions :


a) Define the term computer hardware.
= The physical parts of computer which can be touched or felt is known as computer hardware.
b) What are input devices? List any two input devices.
= The devices that are used to enter data and instruction to the computer is known as input device.
Example are: Mouse, Keyboard, Scanner, Joystick etc.
c) What is processing device? Write the name of processing device.
= The device which are process the input data according to the given set of instruction are called
processing device. CPU and GPU are the processing device.
d) What are output devices? Name any two common output devices.
= The devices which are used to give the processed result of the computer are called output
devices. Example are: Monitor , Printer, Projector etc.
e) What Is soft copy output?
= The output displayed on the monitor and other output processed by the speaker is called soft
copy output. Monitor is a softcopy output device.
f) What is hard copy output?
= The output produced by the printer by printing on the paper is called hard copy output. Printer is
a hard copy output device.
g) What are storage device? Write two such devices.
= The devices which are used to store data and program in the computer are called storage and
memory device. Examples are: Hard disk, Floppy disk, CD-ROM,DVD-ROM etc.
h) What are different between RAM and ROM ?

RAM ROM
1. It stand for Random Access Memory. It stands for Read Only Memory.
2. It is volatile and temporary memory. It is non volatile and permanent memory.
3. It is comparatively cheaper. It is comparatively expensive.
4. It store running program. It store start up information.
i) What is CPU? List its major parts.
= The central processing device is the main processing device of the computer. Basically the CPU
has main three parts, they are: i) Control Unit ii) Arithmetic Logic Unit iii) Register
j) What is projector? What are the two common types of projector?
= Projector is a device that allows you to display images, videos or other content on a large screen
or surface. The two types of projector are LCD and DLP projector.
2. Write the full forms for the following:
ALU: Arithmetic Logic Unit CU: Control Unit CD: Compact Disc
DVD: Digital Versatile Disk ROM: Read Only Memory RAM: Random Access Memory
USB : Universal Serial Bus LCD: Liquid Crystal Display CRT: Cathode Ray Tube
LED: Liquid Crystal Display
