- Write your answers on the separate answer paper provided.
0l- Start each question on a fresh side of the page.
0l- Write your centre number, candidate number and name on each sheet of answer paper you use.
r-
Answer all questions.
All working must be clearly shown. The working should be done on the same sheet as the rest of
the answer. Marks will be given for working which shows that you know how to solve the problem even if you
get the answer wrong.
At the end of the examination, fasten all of your work securely together using the string provided.
Do not use staples, paper clips, highlighters, glue or correction Iluid.
The number of marks is given in brackets [ ] at the end of each question or part question.
The total of the marks for this paper is 125.
Electronic calculators may be used.
lf the degree of accuracy is not specified in the question and if the answer is not exact, the answer should be
given to three significant figures. Answers in degrees should be given to one decimal place.
ln any question where the value of ru is required, use the value f rom your calculator or take x as 3.142.

A country has 3 582600 people who qualify to vote. During the voter registration exercise, 2300000
people registered.
(a) (i) Calculate the number of people who qualify to vote that did not register. 12t
(ii) Express the number of people who did not register as a percentage of those who qualify to
vote. t2t
Calculate the number of registered voters who voted, giving the answer in standard form. l3t
(c) The 3 582 600 people who qualify to vote is 427o of the total population of the country.
The diagram below shows triangle OPQ. The position vectors of P and Q are a and b respectively.
R is a point on PQ such that PR : RQ = 2' 1.
(b) Find the ratio of the area of triangle OPRto the area of triangle OPQ. t2l
Express, in terms of x, the amount of meat, in kg,that Kago buys in June. lll
(b) In July, the cost per kg of meat increased by P2.
Express, in terms of r,
(i) the new cost of meat per kg, ll I
(ii) the amount of meat, in kg, that Kago will now buy with the same amount of money. Il I
(c) The amount of meat he can now buy is 1.5 kg less than the amount of meat he could have bought
in June.
(i) Form an equation in x for this information and show that it reduces to x2 + 2x - 680 = 0. t3l
(ii) Solve the equation x2 + 2x- 680 = 0, giving your answers correct to 2 decimal places. Ist
(d) Hence, or otherwise, calculate the cost per kg of meat in July. t2t
