This module will help you read words, phrases, sentences, and
short stories with vowel diphthongs: oy (boy), oi (boil), ou (out), ow
(bow).

The scope of this module permits it to be used in many


different learning situations. The language used recognizes the
diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to
follow the standard sequence of the course.

After going through this module, you are expected to:

1. Read words with vowel diphthongs: oy (boy), oi (boil), ou (out),


ow (bow)
2. Read phrases, sentences, and short stories consisting vowel
diphthongs:
oy, oi, ou, ow

A diphthong is a single sound produced when two vowels are


paired together in a sequence.
It contains vowels in which a new vowel sound is formed by the
combination of both vowel sounds.

Direction: Read the short story. Encircle the words that have

Roy and the Field of Soy


Mil Flores-Ponciano and Leo Go

Father works in the field. He toils in the field. Two


coy boys go with Father to dig the field of soy. Roy, with
a round toy, joins the coy boys. Father warns Roy and
the coy boys. “Don’t destroy the soy. Don’t play with
your toy.” But the boys and Roy still play and jump with
joy. They jump on the moist soil and the soy was
destroyed, Now, father has no soy to harvest. He is
annoyed, so he frowned all day long.
