I. Short Answers Questions: 1. What is communication? Communication is the process of transferring or sharing of information between two or more people. It is a two-way process of reaching mutual understanding. 2. what is Effective Communication? Effective communication can happen if we follow the basic principles of professional communication skills. This can be abbreviated as 7C’s, Clear, Concise, Coherent, Concrete, Correct, Complete and Courteous. 3. What are the features of effective communication? Effective communication has the following features: 1) Mutually accepted code, i.e. a common language. 2) A message should be clear. 3) Listening to others. 4) Response from the receiver. 4. What are the elements of communication cycle? The various elements of a communication cycle are – 1. Sender: the person beginning the communication. 2. Encoding: formation of the message. 3. Channel: the means by which the information is sent. 4. Decoding:reforming of message. 5. Receiver: the person to whom the message is sent. 6. Feedback: the receiver’s acknowledgement and response to the message. 5. List the barriers of effective communication. The barriers of effective communication are- Environmental Barriers, Situational Barriers, and Individual Barriers. 6. What are the advantages and disadvantage of oral communication? Advantage: 1. Oral message provides prompt feedback. 2. It is cost efficient. 3. It helps in building relationships. 4. Most convenient method 5. Ease of communication Disadvantage: 1.It has no legal validity. 2. It does not provide a permanent record and the message can easily be forgotten. 3. It may be difficult for certain people to understand speech due to various accents and pace used in oral communication. 7. Enlist the factors affecting perspective in communication? The various factors affecting perspective in communication are – Visual perspective, Past experiences, Attitude, Prejudice, Environment, Feelings, and Beliefs. 8. What are Prepositions? Explain with the help of an example. A preposition describes a relationship between other words in a sentence. For example, ‘The book is on the table’. The word ‘on’ describes the relationship between the book and the table. 9.What are Interjections? Interjection refers to a word or phrase that expresses a strong emotion. They are usually followed by an exclamation sign'!', for example, Ouch!. 10. What are the four kinds of sentence? Give example. i. Assertive sentence- is a sentence that states a fact. Eg: I study in class IX. ii. Imperative sentence- is a sentence which gives a command make a request or expresses a wish. Eg: go to room (an order) please lend me your book ( a request) iii. Exclamatory sentence- is a sentence that expresses sudden and strong feelings Well done ! iv. Interrogative sentence- is a sentence that asks a question. Eg: How are you doing? 11. What rules should we follow while writing a paragraph? i. Introduction (Including Title) ii. Support/Explanation. This is further divided into Content b) Expression (Fluency, Grammar, and Spelling) c) Sequencing iii. Conclusion 12. What is verbal communication? Sharing of information by using words is called Verbal Communication. Most people use this as a method of communication. 13. What are the types of Verbal communication? 1. Oral communication – which involves talking Face to face conversation which involves group discussion Talking on a phone – personal and official communication 2. Written Communication – which involves writing letters, notes, emails and sms 14. What are the advantages and disadvantages of written communication? Advantages: It is a permanent means of a communication It is useful where record maintenance is required. Legal defences can depend upon written communication as it provides valid records. Disadvantages: It is time-consuming as the feedback is not immediate. Effective written communication requires great skills and competencies in language and vocabulary use. Too much paper work and burden in involved in written communication. 15. What is public speaking? Speaking in front of the large audience is public speaking. It can make the speaker nervous. The speaker should keep in mind the 3Ps of public speaking: Prepare – prepare the speech with proper topic and relevant content according to the audience need. Practice – The speaker needs to practice the contents again and again in front of the mirror or in front of your family. You should make sure that your voice should be clear, loud with proper pace. Perform – Final step is to present it in to your audience without getting nervous.
