ABOUT CAVENDISH
UNIVERSITY UGANDA
Cavendish University Uganda (CUU) is a leading private university in Uganda established in 2008 and
is licensed and accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

Our student-centric academic model deploys global best practices in teaching and learning and aims
to fulfil the Mission of CUU, which is to transform and inspire students to reach their full potential in
employment, entrepreneurship, and ethical leadership.

CUU offers market-relevant and accredited academic programmes hosted in four Faculties of Law,
Science & Technology, Business & Management, and Socio-economic Sciences. In addition, we also
have a School of Postgraduate Studies & Research.

Learning at our University is innovative, student-centric, participatory, dynamic, and practical. We


use a sophisticated artificially intelligent platform to support blended learning, projects, case studies,
distance learning, and other functional and active learning forms.

We have a large student population hailing from over 47 countries. More than 10,000 students have
graduated from CUU in many different disciplines at certificate, diploma, bachelor`s, and master`s
levels since its inception.

This Faculty imparts practical, measurable, active business principles and thought patterns that
impact positively on students’ ability to succeed as entrepreneurs, executives or employees. The
combination of skills taught puts our graduates at the head of the pack in the areas of business
and management.

The Faculty maintains a close linkage with industry so as to inform curriculum review and to
identify unexploited niche markets related to specialised training and short courses.

It uses technologically enhanced learning which presents an opportunity for learners to get

Career Objectives
Graduates with a bachelor’s degree in business qualify for entry level careers,

FACULTY OF LAW
• The Faculty of Law was established in 2010 and has established itself as a top-tier law
school with a highly skilled, qualified and exceptional faculty with diverse experience. The
programmes taught are approved by the National Council for Higher Education and the Law
Council. The Faculty has a state of the art facility with an inbuilt Moot Courtroom to equip
students with required practical skills.

• The Faculty attracts students from multi-cultural backgrounds, giving our students an edge
in the international job market. Faculty of Law produces balanced graduates seasoned with
both academic and co-curricular activity prowess.

• Students are engaged in several student clubs that aid them in networking such as: Human
Rights Club, Law Society, Legal Aid Clinic, Rule of Law Club, among others.

• The Faculty is a Member of the International Association of Law Schools and has participated
in annual conferences in Cape Town South Africa, Doha, India, Qatar and Pune.

• Our law students have participated in the Comparative Contract Law Project with law
schools in France, India, and Bhutan. This project ended in 2019.

AND TECHNOLOGY
The Faculty of Science and Technology houses the Department of Public Health
Sciences which is currently ranked among the best in the country, producing highly
innovative graduates who are adequately prepared to serve the community in the
areas of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.

Our science and technology students have the knowledge and skills necessary to
develop large telecommunications and computer systems covering a broad range of
scientific and technological applications.

On the whole, the faculty offers a simplified approach to teaching which stimulates

The Faculty of Socio-Economic Sciences (SES) is among the oldest and pioneer faculties at
Cavendish University Uganda. It was established with the aim of equipping learners with an

Cavendish University Socio-Economic students will secure a guaranteed learning experience


during their studies. The real- world experience could include an Internship, a practicum
placement or project work and it is all arranged by our vigilant team of lecturers. Our courses
offer direct links with Industry and professional organisations such as;

• The Media Challenge Initiative which conducts annual inter university competitions and
gives awards to best performers. They also offer training in ‘Solution Journalism’ to 6
students who perform well in different categories each year.
• Subsequently some of our students improve practical skills in different areas. Other students
have gained access to employment opportunities because of the exposure they get through
such hands-on activities.
• Ultimate Media Consult which offers training to both lecturers and students in multimedia
journalism.
• In the Department of international relations and diplomatic studies, the Faculty has partnered
with the UNHRC that offers training to students and staff on matters of Human rights.
• Nigerian High Commission to Uganda has offered internship placements to our students, as
well as the Tanzanian High commission.
• The Faculty also enjoys a long term relationship with the Embassy of South Sudan in Uganda.

The School of Post Graduate Studies & Research (SPGSR) is the unit that
coordinates graduate training and research. The SPGSR focuses on national

New Programme:
English as a Second Language short Course

The Cavendish University Uganda English as a Second Language Course is a short


course designed to help students who would want to learn how to communicate in
English, improve their Business languages skills, and develop proficiency in the English
Language. It is a three level course with each level developed to meet your specific
need for the English Language.

Learning Objectives

On completion of this course, successful students should be able to:

• Develop personal presence and greater self-trust–confidence in key language items


useful in different everyday situations.
• Develop skills to communicate in English to any English-speaking audience.
• Identify with the language associated with everyday situations.
• Have a firm grip of Basic English language use.
• Read texts with fluency, understanding and competence, decoding groups of
words/phrases and not just single words.
• Develop a strong writing skill where thinking precedes writing.
• Use of the MLA, APA, Chicago or Harvard citation reference or bibliography format.

2. Distance Learning Programme (DL)


Distance Learning Programmes are designed to deliver teaching and learning at a distance.
Cavendish University’s Distance Learning Platform provides a flexible, accessible and cost
effective mode of learning as an alternative to the traditional classroom based programmes.
This mode of study is suitable for those who have difficulty attending traditional class for
various reasons. It gives one the opportunity to study away from the classroom without
interrupting their day to day activities.

3. Weekend Programme
The CUU Weekend programmes are flexible and convenient! Students can study from
anywhere using in-class and online (blended) learning options. Even more accessible are
your learning materials through our state-of-the-art, 3rd generation teaching and learning

Registration and Entry for Ugandan Students
Requirements:
Direct entry
(a) At least five (5) passes at the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) obtained at the same sitting or
its equivalent.
(b) At least two (2) principal passes at the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) obtained
at the same sitting or its equivalent.
Conditional admission will be verified after getting the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB)
Results print – out.
Within the framework of the general direct entry requirements, there may be Special Faculty Requirements
which a candidate must fulfil to gain admission to a programme in a specific Faculty.

Mature Age Entry


(a) A candidate must be at least 25 years of age
(b) The candidate must have passed Mature Age Entry Examinations with 50% mark or above
(c) The Mature Age Entry Examinations must have been taken at a centre approved by the NCHE
(d)No candidate who had previously attended a programme at Cavendish University Uganda shall be
readmitted to the University under this scheme to a programme of study in which he/she failed to qualify
during his/her previous attendance.

Registration and Entry for International Students


Requirements:

Must have a qualification that is recognised for University entry in his/her home country or country

where he/she has studied. The applicant will be offered a provisional admission for one semester

pending equating of his/her qualification.


The University may consider for admission to a degree programme a candidate who has successfully
completed a 12–year-system of education provided that such a candidate has been registered at
another University, prior to applying to Cavendish University Uganda, for a degree programme and has
successfully completed at least one year of university education. Such a candidate must, however, submit
the University academic transcript from that other University.

A holder of a 12- year-system of Education Certificate:


A holder of this Certificate such as the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or the equivalent
is required to successfully complete a Foundation Year before enrolling for the Bachelor`s degree
programme.

Student Life
The student body at Cavendish University Uganda is very diverse, with students hailing from
more than 47 different countries on the African continent. The University is home to students
from Uganda, Nigeria, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia and Eritrea....to name but
a few.

Having such a diverse student body makes life at Cavendish University Uganda that more
interesting, as students are exposed to other cultures and ways of doing things. Each nationality
has an association that represents its interests while the UN Student Club brings all of them
together, if they desire to be a part of it.

Letting off steam


Every once in a while one needs to ease some of the pressure. Cavendish University is perfectly
located for students who wish to let off some steam after classes. Ggaba road holds pocket-
friendly entertainment in form of restaurants, bars and beaches.

For the artistic types, Okapi Gallery serves up both art and meat roasts. Beach lovers can choose
between KK, Ggaba and the beach at Commonwealth Speke Resort or all three.

THINGS WORTH KNOWING
KAMPALA WEATHER
On average, the hottest months of the year in Kampala are October and February, during which time the daily
temperature will generally hover in the upper 80’s and the lower 90’s. The coldest months of the year in Kampala on
average are June and July, during which time the daily high temperature will generally reach the lower 80’s.

TRANSPORTATION

There are three methods of public transportation: boda-boda, matatu and special hire taxis. The fastest method is
the boda-boda; motorcycles that you see all over the city. You won’t be in Kampala long before being propositioned
by a Boda driver. If you’re not interested, a simple “no” will get them to leave you alone. You can get almost anywhere
on the back of one for between 1,000 and 2,000 UGX, but make sure you agree on the fare before the ride begins.

OUT AND ABOUT

Things to do outside the campus are endless. Students frequent Kingsgate Mall, various eateries and discotheques
along Gaba road. For those who love adventure there are 3 beach fronts farther up the road: KK beach, Ggaba Beach
and Commonwealth Speke Resort Munyonyo.

HANGOUTS
There are a lot of bars and nightclubs in the city. There are also a number of cinemas that are located within some
of the shopping malls. Kampala has eight casinos and numerous shopping malls including Acacia Mall, Garden City
Mall, Village Mall and Kings’ Gate Mall.
