1 Introduction

1.1 General
In addition to the Readme file that comes with the OFS eGlobe G2 file, this short
guide provides information on how to install and use the Onboard Familiarization
System (OFS) from ChartWorld.
The OFS is an ongoing, offline course of training, offered in a Computer Based
Training (CBT) form. It enables you, the user, to familiarize yourself with the eGlobe
G2 ECDIS system. The OFS gets updated on a regular basis; once this is done, an
email notification is sent out. You need to have subscribed to eCert OFS services
in order to be able to receive the OFS details. The Onboard Familiarization System
is offered on a per-vessel basis, not a per-user basis.
The OFS can be downloaded from the ChartWorld NextCloud server, using the link
which is sent to you.
It can also be obtained by CD/DVD; however, this will only be done on request and
will be sent to your office address.
The archive is password-protected; you will receive the password once you have
subscribed to the service.

Note:
File Size: 2 GB (It is not recommended to download this by using the vessel’s
communication system).

The OFS_eGlobe_G2_v.xxxx.x folder contains:

In all, it takes approximately 2 hours 45 minutes to complete the OFS training. The
training is designed to give the crew the knowledge that they require to operate
the ECDIS safely, from a starting point of zero knowledge of the product.

Using the Menu button, you can fold the Menu sidebar in or fold it out.

The menu is locked and only usable in the second round of watching the recorded
material (if it is greyed out).

To zoom-in / zoom-out, press Z on your keyboard.

the login page, by clicking on the
respective circles.

You need to finalise the four

sections of the Course Menu (by
clicking on the respective circles),
to unlock the Final Assessment.

If you have completed all

sections, the Final Assessment
circle will be unlocked. By clicking
on the Final Assessment circle,
you start the Final Assessment.

If you have passed the Final Assessment, a certificate will be generated, which
you can print or save on your computer.

2 Running the OFS for the First Time

2.1 General
If you already have an older version of the OFS installed, you first need to delete
that version from your system before installing the new one.

Note:
Make sure that you have a PDF Creator installed on your computer, to save the
final certificate at the end of the OFS.
If you do not, please install the PDF Creator from the Supporting_Software
folder.
In addition, you should make sure that your Java is suitably updated.

2.2 Installation of PDF Creator

If you have no PDF Creator installed or just have a PDF reader, please install the
PDF Creator from the Supporting_Software folder.

Double-click on the PDF Creator icon.

A window will pop up, asking you whether you want to allow the program to make
changes to the computer – click on Yes.

The installation window will pop up - choose your language and click on Install.

The installation will start – wait until the installation progress is finished.

If the installation progress has been successful, this will be indicated in the
installation window.
Restart your computer to complete the installation.

2.3 Installation of the OFS

To use the OFS eGlobe G2, you need to install the program on your computer.
This chapter will guide you through the installation process.

1. Copy the complete OFS_eGlobe_G2_v. xxxx.x.zip file to your hard disk (C:\
preferred).

2. Because it is a compressed (zipped) file, you first need to extract it.

2.1. Right-click on the file and select Extract All

2.2. Extract the folder to C:\OFS_eGlobe_G2_v. xxxx.x and click on Extract.

Important:
Do not rename any folder!

2.3. You will be prompted for the extraction password. Enter the password that
has been provided to you; then click OK.

Important:
You need to have subscribed to the OFS Service in order to receive this
information.

Note:
If you get an error message with “Path too long”, tick the checkbox “Do this for
all current items” and click on “Skip”.

3. If you have internet connectivity, close your current Web Browser session if you
are currently using Mozilla Firefox.
4. Open the OFS_eGlobe_G2_v. xxxx.x folder and double-click on the
OFS_Launcher.bat

This will launch the Portable Built-In Firefox; the OFS will start automatically.
This may take some time; it might not work at all if you try to start the OFS directly
from a network drive, instead of from your local drive C:\.

Note:
We strongly recommend that you use the FireFox browser - that is the browser
that works most reliably with the OFS!
Other browsers may cause problems.

Important:
It is extremely important that you keep the original folder structure; if you do
not, the OFS will not work properly!
If you open the OFS_eGlobe_G2_v. xxxx.x folder, the folder structure must look
like this:

3.1 Any issues starting the OFS

1. If you have any difficulties in starting the OFS via the OFS_Launcher.bat, or you
want to start it directly from a network drive, proceed as follows:
