    WRITING TASK 2 TOPICS:

    1. As the number of cars increases, more money has to be spent on road systems. Some people
    think the government should pay for this. Others, however, think that drivers should cover the
    costs.
    2. Living in big cities is bad for health. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
    3. Some people say that it is possible for a country to be economically successful and have a
    clean environment. Others disagree.
    Discuss both views and give your opinion.
    4. Some people believe that theoretical subjects should not be taught in universities because
    most students prefer to study practical subjects. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
    5. Space travel has been possible for some time and some people believe that space tourism
    could be developed in the future. Do you think it is a positive or negative development?
    6. Scientists predict in the near future cars will be driven by computers, not people. Do you
    think it is a positive or negative development?
    7. Government funding should only be provided for the best students as scholarships. Other
    funding of universities should come from student fees and private organizations.
    To what extent do you agree or disagree?
    8. In many parts of the world, children now are given more freedom than they used to have. Do
    you think it’s a positive or negative development?
    9. In some countries, the number of people choosing to live by themselves is increasing rapidly
    in recent years. Why is this the case? Is this a positive and negative development for society?
    10. Animal species are becoming extinct as a result of human activities on land and in the sea.
    What are the reasons and solutions?
    11. Some people think parents should read or tell stories to children, while others think parents
    need not do that, as children can read books, watch TV or movies by themselves.

    tourism’ is impossible to implement in reality.

    14. In some parts of the world it is increasingly popular to research the history of one’s own
    family. Why do people want to do this? Is it a positive or negative development?
    15. In many countries, planners tend to arrange shops, schools, offices and homes in specific
    areas and separate them from each other. Do you think the advantages of this policy outweigh
    its disadvantages?
