Types of Network

• Local Area Network (LAN)

• Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
• Wide Area Network (WAN)
Types of Network
• Local Area Network (LAN)
• A Local Area Network (LAN) is a computer network that spans a
relatively small area.
• Most often, a LAN is confined to a single room, building or group of
buildings

• Two General Types of Local Area Networks (LAN)

• Wired LANs
• Wireless LANs
Types of Basic Topologies

• Star
• Bus
• Ring
• Mesh
Star Topology
• Star
• A star topology features a central hub or switch that all network nodes and
devices are connected to.

Bus Topology
• Bus
• A bus topology connects every device on the network to a single cable that runs
along the entire infrastructure.
Ring Topology
• Ring
• A ring topology connects network devices to each other in a line that turns
into a closed loop. This topology can either be unidirectional or
bidirectional.
Mesh Topology
• Mesh
• A mesh topology is a setup where network devices make multiple
connects to other nodes on the network.
Types of Local Area Network (LAN)
• Wired Local Area Network
• Ethernet LANs happen to use cables for the links between
nodes.
• May use cables made of copper or fiber.

• Uses radio waves instead of cables to connect between
nodes.

meant to be used in small businesses.
