LEARNING STYLES
As a teacher, during teaching of course you will find several different children's characters
because each child has a unique learning style. Therefore, to teach something, a teacher must
recognize or know the types of learning styles of each child in order to achieve appropriate
learning goals. Teachers must be able to apply the three learning styles possessed by students
in the class. These learning styles include: (1) Visual learning style (2) Audiotory learning
style and (3) Kinesthetic learning style.
The first is visual learning. Visual learning is defined as learning by observing and
participating comparable activities. Observing an image, diagram, performance, or video and
obtaining knowledge from it is known as visual learning. Students who are like this want to
read or seek information. Once they've read or seen the information, these students will
process it more swiftly and readily. Therefore, the teacher’s strategies for teaching visuals to
children include using pictures and visual media. Teachers can use pictures, posters,
diagrams, cartoons and other visual multimedia to help them understand the context of the
lesson being learned so that they can develop good visual observation skills. By
implementing this strategy, teachers can help children develop a deeper understanding
through visual learning and improve their creativity and observational skills in understanding
the world around them.
The second is auditory. The auditory learning style is a learning method that prioritizes the
listener's senses or logic. The students learning by listening can be listening to applications
such as Spotify (podcast), lectures, discussions, debates and oral instructions (orders).
Students who are trained find it easier to communicate information by listening directly. They
tend to learn or receive information by listening, rather than speaking. Here are some
strategies that can help teachers teach children with auditory learning styles. For example,
teachers can use the question and answer learning method by inviting students to actively
participate by asking and answering questions. Discussion and direct interaction will
strengthen their memory and understanding. Also encourage students to read the subject
material aloud. Students with auditory learning styles tend to be better at remembering
information that they listen to. Reading material aloud can help them internalize concepts.
Importantly provide varied learning media, such as podcasts or recordings as part of the
learning materials.
Last is the kinesthetic. Kinesthetic learning is a technique based on doing. People who are
kinesthetic learners learn best when they are physically active and have hands-on experience.
Kinesthetic learners prefer playing games or solving puzzles as part of their learning
experience. They appreciate problem solving and attempting new things to develop their
talents. So, to help the students in their learning process, teachers may use this strategy of
kinesthetic style for example, by leading the students in memorizing something that is linked
to a body part and making abbreviations based on objects around them. Also, let the students
memorize by walking or finger-tapping, which is typical of kinesthetic learners.
In conclusion, each learning style whether visual, auditory and kinesthetic can help students
achieve their learning comprehension. If the teacher is able to place the learning style
according to the material being studied, hopefully the students are able to develop their
learning achievement in class.
