1. Given a vector function

(a) Determine the constants c1, c2, and c3 if F is irrotational.
(b) Determine the constant c4 if F is also solenoidal.
(c) Determine the scalar potential function V whose negative gradient equals F.
3. Consider the plane 𝑥 + √2𝑦 + 𝑧 = 3. Find a normal vector to this surface and the unit
vector normal to the surface.
4. Find the values of the constants a,b, and c so that the directional derivative of

parallel to the z-axis.

where 𝑉 is the closed region bounded by the planes 𝑥 = 0, 𝑦 = 0, 𝑧 = 0 and 2𝑥 +
2𝑦 + 𝑧 = 4.

for this vector over a cube 1m on the side. Assume the cube occupies the space

in free space is given by 𝐸 = 𝐶 sin 12𝑦 sin 𝑎𝑧 cos(2 × 1010 𝑡) 𝒂𝒙 𝑉/𝑚. Beginning
with the ∇ × 𝑬 relationship, use Maxwell’s equations to find a numerical value for a, if
it is known that a is greater than zero.
14. The surfaces 𝜌 = 3 𝑎𝑛𝑑 10 𝑚𝑚, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑧 = 0 𝑎𝑛𝑑 25 𝑐𝑚 are perfect conductors. The

Maxwell’s Equations to find 𝜔 and E.
15. Let ρv = 0 for r < 1cm and r > 3cm whereas in the region 1cm < r < 3cm, ρv = 10-8
cos(50πr) C/m3. Find D everywhere. Assume cylindrical coordinate system.
