Cadcam Lab 1
Cadcam Lab 1
Student’s
Criteria Excellent (4) Proficient (3) Basic (2) Below Basic(1) Score
This is where the fundamentals of machine design come in, and they can be broken down into
three categories:
Adaptive Design,
Developmental Design
New Design.
What is CAD?
CAD (computer-aided design) is the use of computer-based software to aid in design processes.
Different types of engineers and designers frequently use CAD software. CAD software can be
used to create two-dimensional (2-D) drawings or three-dimensional (3-D) models.
Why we use CAD?
CAD enables the developers to do the modification in the design and optimize the design
process. In addition, cad is used to make the design perfect in every aspect. CAD can help the
designers to accurately represent and modify the given product in soft form.
CAD Packages:
1. Solidworks
2. Fusion 360
3. CREO
4. CATIA
What is CAM?
CAM:
CAM stands for Computer Aided Manufacturing. It is the use of software and computer-
controlled machinery to automate a manufacturing process. Software that tells a machine how to
make a product by automating the whole process.
In Lab Tasks:
There are different tasks performed in the lab. These tasks are given below.
Opening Solidworks:
When we open the solid works application, a welcome screen appears in which we have to select
if we want to make part, assembly, or drawing.
Figure:1
Selecting Part:
In this course, we have to make a part so we should select part. When we select he part, new user
interface will appear as shown in figure.
Figure:2
Selecting Plane:
Now, we have to select the plane in which we have to make the part. We select top plane as the
base and start performing different operations.

Sketch Bar:
Sketch bar contains different tools for construction of a mechanical element. These tools have
different properties. These tools are explained with examples below.

Conclusion:
In this lab we learned about machine designing, what
is cad, what are available cad packages, we learned
about cam as well. After that we start studying a
software named “SOLIDWORKS” which is used for
mechatronics design for 2D and 3D planes.
