Make-up Examination: CE 419 Reinforced Concrete Design II Date ________
Sections: G4H & G4I Ac.Year 2002/03 Time: 3 Hrs
Max. Mark: 70
Instructions: Examination is open exercise book
Assume suitable data if necessary

Q1. The floor system shown below is subjected to 6 KN/m2 live load. Partition and finishing
contributes load of 3 KN/m2. Using C-30, S-400 and class I work, determine.
(a) The thickness of the slab.
(b) The design moments of the floor system.
(c) The positive reinforcement of panel 3. (20 Pts)

Q2. The slab shown below is subjected to a UDL of 8 KN/m2. If it is isotropically reinforced,
determine the ultimate moment of resistance m per unit length of yield line balancing the UDL.
The positive ultimate resisting moment is m and the negative ultimate resisting moments are 1m
and 2m as indicated in the pictures. Take 1 = 0.5 and 2 = 0.2 (20 Pts)

Q3. Show the yield line patterns for the following slabs. (10 Pts)

Q4. A rectangular tank of capacity 169 m3 with 770 X 570 cm internal base dimension is to be
constructed. If the tank is a hinged base, free top and continuous sides, determine:
(a) the moment and shear distributions in the tank.
(b) the main reinforcement at the mid-height corner of the tank.
Use fcu = 35 MPa and fy = 460 MPa (20 Pts)
