SAP-AFO Notes
SAP-AFO Notes
What is AFO:
Analysis for Office is a reporting tool that is integrated with MS Excel and PowerPoint to allow real-
time analysis of data and creation of useful reports and infographics. It combines data from SAP
sources with the powerful analysis functionality of MS-Excel. This data can then be presented
visually using PowerPoint.
Key Features:
Summary:
SAP Analysis for Office enables (1) simple, Excel-based analysis of large amounts of data, (2)
quick access to various data sources (queries, CDS views, HANA, BPC or local files), (3)
flexible processing and central or local storage of workbooks, including offline processing,
and (4) expandability to include planning scenarios (embedded BPC).
Limitations:
Since SAP Analysis for Office is not a cloud product it will no longer be supported after 2022
instead SAP has now launched a new version for Cloud solutions called SAP Analytics Cloud
(add-in for Office)
Restriction due to access rights
Though SAC and AFO are not connected to allow real-time updates, both these tools can be
integrated for planning and analyzing data.
For instance, Data created in SAC can be downloaded in excel format and used for analysis. Any
changes to the SAC data model do not automatically affect the AFO file however in case the data
source tables are amended these can lead to a real time update of the AFO file
Local calculations in the excel file are not written back to the SAP system to maintain data integrity
with the exception of planning data from IBP where budgets/forecasts are written back to the SAP
system and can be integrated with other tools including SAC.
AFO connects directly with SAP BW (Business Warehouse), SAP BPC (Business Planning &
Consolidation), SAC (SAP Analytics Cloud) and SAP S/4 Hana incase SAP BusinessObjects are not
used.
