INPUT, PROCESS, OUTPUT & STORE

Input – whatever is input into a computer system. It can be

provided by a person, an environment or by another computer.
Example of INPUT:
words and symbols in a document
pictures, instructions from a computer program
temperature from a thermostat and
numbers for a calculation

INPUT, PROCESS, OUTPUT & STORE

Process – computer manipulates data in various ways, and this

manipulation is referred to PROCESSING.
Some of the ways:
- modifying data and pictures
- sorting lists of numbers and words
- drawing graphs and
- performing calculations.

INPUT, PROCESS, OUTPUT & STORE

Most processing takes place in a component called the Central

Processing Unit (CPU) and sometimes described as the “Brain” of
the Computer.

INPUT, PROCESS, OUTPUT & STORE

Output – the result produced by a computer is known as the output.

Examples of output:
- reports
- documents
- music
- graphs and pictures.

INPUT, PROCESS, OUTPUT & STORE

Store – most computers have more than one location for storing
data.
Memory : is an area of that temporarily holds data that is waiting
to be processed, stored or output
The area where data can be left on a permanent basis when it is
not immediately needed for processing is called STORAGE.

COMPUTER COMPONENTS
MEMORY
The component that stores data to be accessed in
any order is called a random access memory
(RAM). It is considered as the main memory or
primary storage.
It is the working area used for displaying and
manipulating data.
Note: The contents of RAM are erased when a
computer is shut down.

COMPUTER COMPONENTS
BIOS Basic Input-Output System or
Basic Integrated Operating System).
It refers to the software run by a
computer when it is first turned on.
Its primary function is to prepare the
machine so other programs stored on
various devices can load, execute, and
assume control of the computer system. This
step is known as boot process or booting.
