Introduction This document provides installation instructions and release notes for the Thermo Scientific™ Quadrupole MS 5.1
instrument control software (ICS) for GC-IC-LC. The document also lists fixed issues in this version of the driver
and known issues still existing with the driver.
For information about installation, configuration, and use of the Quadrupole MS ICS, refer to the following:

Important You must have administrative privileges and log in with them to load new software on the computer.
Information
Minimum The minimum data system hardware and software configuration required for this software are the same as those for the
Requirements Thermo Scientific™ Chromeleon™ software. Note that layered applications and other software packages may have
different requirements. The system requirements in the following table apply to Microsoft™ Windows™ 10 data systems.

Recommended When using the software, we recommend installing one of the versions of Thermo Scientific software listed in the
Software and following table for best compatibility. However, you may use any version that meets the requirements listed in the
Software Minimum Requirements section.

New Feature Quadrupole MS 5.1 drivers support Thermo Scientific™ SmartStatus™ 1.0 software. SmartStatus software provides
information about the proper functioning of certain Thermo Scientific autosamplers, gas chromatographs (GC),
and mass spectrometers.

report displays errors. The errors can be located in this directory: C:\Program Files
(x86)\Thermo\Chromeleon\bin\DDK\V1\Drivers\Thermo\ISQEC
Note The errors and recommendations in the Station IQ report are a typical and expected result. Instrument
performance is not affected.
Table 1 contains the file locations and error messages that might appear in the Station IQ report when the
Quadrupole MS for GC-LC-IC driver is installed on systems running Chromeleon 7.2.10 MUa or later,
Chromeleon 7.3.0, or Chromeleon 7.3.1 software.

General To install the software on a new data system (PC), you must configure the Ethernet port to ensure proper

1. Turn on the computer and allow it to complete its boot processes.
2. Open the Network and Sharing Center.
3. Configure the network card that will connect to the mass spectrometer:
Note At the time of this release, only the Broadcom Netxtreme Gigabit Ethernet (NIC) card is supported,
connected directly only with the cable provided. Do not connect the ISQ Series instrument to any other card than
the Broadcom Netxtreme Gigabit Ethernet (NIC) card and DO NOT connect through a hub, switch or router.
a. Right-click on the card and select Rename to rename this connection. Rename it the same as your MS
model: for example, TSQ 9610, ISQ 7610, or ISQ EC.

b. Right-click on the MS connection you named in the previous step and select Properties to set the IP address.
c. Disable all the protocols, except the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Version 4, by un-checking the boxes.
d. Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) line to highlight it, and then select Properties.
e. Set the IP address of the MS by choosing the Use the Following IP Address radio button.
Note The IP address can be anything between 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.254, except for 192.168.1.234,
which is the default address used on the MS system.
f. Click OK to confirm, and click OK to save the changes and close the window for the MS connection
properties.

Performance section. This opens the Performance Options window.

Performance Options window.
Note You will need to restart the data system for this change to take effect.

Note These power settings must be changed for any new users who are added to the system. Only an
administrator is allowed to change these settings.

Reinstalling To reinstall the software:
the Software 1. Close all data acquisition and instrument control software.
2. Ensure that your data system (PC) meets the system requirements above. Layered software applications may have
different requirements. Please refer to applicable documentation for details.
3. Open Instrument Configuration.
4. In the Available Devices pane, select your MS instrument.
5. Under Configured Devices, click the type MS instrument installed, then click Remove. Do the same for the
other configured devices, such as the GC. Select Done to close Instrument Configuration.
6. Access Programs and Features to uninstall the previous installation.
7. Under the list of currently installed programs, locate Thermo.Chromeleon.QuadrupoleMS_GC_IC_LC.msi
and click on it. Click Uninstall.
8. The driver will uninstall automatically.
9. Open the Task Manager, select the Processes tab, and click on Image Name to alphabetize the processes.
Verify that the following process is not in the list: Thermo.Chromeleon.QuadrupoleMS_GC_IC_LC.driver.
10. Open the Quadrupole MS for GC-IC-LC folder on the desktop.
Note Back up all the software in the installer folder onto a USB drive or external hard drive in case you need
to reinstall it later.

14. Click the Install button.
15. The software will begin the installation process.
16. When process is complete, click Finish.
