CONSTIPATION

Is defined as having hard, dry, small bowel movement or going fever then three (3)
times a week. Constipation occurs when a person has difficulty emptying the large
bowel. Home remedies and lifestyle changes can often help resolve it, but sometimes
it may need medical attention. Constipation may happen for many reasons, such as
when stool passes through the colon too slowly. The slower the food moves through
the digestive tract, the more water the colon will absorb and the harder the feces will
become

CAUSES:-

1. Certain diet
2. Lack of fiber diet
3. Lack of exercise
4. Dehydration
5. Pregnancy
6. Certain medication such as laxatives
7. Certain Disease condition such;-
- Stroke , Parkinson’s disease ,diabetes
- Rectal and colon problem
- Intestinal obstructive
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Diverticulosis

Sing and Symptoms


- Less 3 bowel movement a week
- Passing small hard and dry stool less than usual
- Straining or pain during bowel movement
- Experiencing rectal blockage
- Nausea
- Loss of appetite
- Difficulty in passing stool

Treatment

 Drinking more fluids
 Eating more high fiber diet
 Regular exercise
 Using stool softener and laxatives
 Enema
 Manual evacuation

- Women
- Children
- Pregnancy
- Elderly (65-above)
