(A) Tossing a fair coin and obtaining a head
(B) Rolling a standard six-sided die and obtaining a 3

A challenge requires teams to run from checkpoint to checkpoint using these tracks.
What would be the shortest possible time for a team to run from checkpoint to checkpoint ?
Mark the shortest route on the diagram below. (2 marks)
In the network diagram below, each of the vertices to represents one of the states or territories
shown on the map of Australia. The edges represent a border shared between two states or between
a state and a territory.
i. In the network diagram, what is the order of the vertex that represents the Australian Capital
Territory (ACT)? (1 mark)
ii. In the network diagram, Queensland is represented by which letter? Explain why. (2 marks)

Consider the network pictured below. The numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are each written on separate cards.
Amy has cards 1, 3 and 5 and Bob has cards 2, 4 and 6.
They play a game in which each person randomly chooses one of their own cards and compares it
with the other person's card. The person with the higher card wins.
a. A partially completed tree diagram is shown.
Complete the tree diagram and find the probability that Bob wins. (2 marks)
Peta remembers that the first two digits of a town’s postcode are 2 and then 4. She is unable to
remember the rest of the postcode.
ii. What is the probability that Peta guesses the correct postcode? (1 mark)
ii. What is the probability of selecting a pair of ribbons which are the same colour? (2 marks)
Juan states that Experiment 2 has given results that are closer to what he expected than the results
given by Experiment 1.
Is he correct? Explain your answer by finding the sample space for the dice differences and using
theoretical probability. (4 marks)
