1 The procedure to install Android Studio on Ubuntu Linux 16.04


1.1 Getting ready for Android Studio installation
1. To follow the installation procedure, you need to be connected to the internet
2. A minimum of 8 GB RAM is recommended, but 4GB RAM will also work fine
3. Make sure Java is installed on your system
4. To confirm whether java is installed or not, follow the below steps

(a) Open the terminal by pressing CTRL+ALT+T keys


(b) Type java - version and press Enter
(c) It will display the java version that is installed on your system

5. If Java is not installed, go to the below website and install the latest version
https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
6. Click on the Download button
7. Accept the license agreement.
8. Select the download file based on your system requirement and do the installation

1.2 Installing Android Studio


1. Locate the tutorial Installation of Android Studio
2. This tutorial explains the prerequisites for installing Android Studio on Ubuntu Linux OS
3. At 0.30 the tutorial mentions the system prerequisites for installing Android Studio. Make sure you
have the right configuration machine
4. At 0:50 the tutorial shows how to download latest version of Android Studio from the website
5. To download the version 3.1.3 as used in the video,
Go to the website https://developer.android.com/studio/archive
6. Click on the button I AGREE TO THE TERMS to agree to the terms and conditions
7. Scroll down and locate the Android Studio 3.1.3. Click on it
8. A window with installer files for different OS opens, click on the zip file for Linux
9. Follow the instruction from 1:32 and proceed to do the installation as shown in the tutorial
10. At 3:50 the tutorial show the Welcome page of Android Studio. If you could see the same on your
machine, then it indicates that Android Studio is successfully installed.
2 The procedure to install Android Studio on Windows 10
2.1 Getting ready for Android Studio installation
1. To follow the installation procedure, you need to be connected to the internet
2. A minimum of 8 GB RAM is recommended, but 4GB RAM will also work fine
3. Make sure Java is installed on your system
4. To confirm whether java is installed or not, follow the below steps

(a) Click the Start button


(b) Scroll through the applications and programs listed until you see the Java folder
(c) Click on the Java folder, then About Java to see the Java version

5. If Java is not installed, go to the below website and install the latest version
https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
6. Click on the Download button
7. Accept the license agreement.
8. Select the download file based on your system requirement and do the installation

2.2 Installing Android Studio


2.2.1 To install Android Studio version 3.1.3 (Recommended)
1. At the time of creating this series, the latest version was android studio 3.1.3.
2. To install the same version, download the software from the below link
3. Go to the website https://developer.android.com/studio/archive
4. Click on the button I AGREE TO THE TERMS to agree to the terms and conditions
5. Scroll down and locate the Android Studio 3.1.3. Click on it
6. Click on the .exe link under windows(64-bit) to download
7. Click on the Save file button in the pop up window
8. Go to the Downloads folder and right click on the exe file and select Run as Administrator
9. A popup window for User Account Control appears. Click on Yes button
10. Android Studio setup window opens. Click on Next button in all windows
11. Select the components to install and click on Next button
12. Click on Install button
13. Click on Next and then Finish button
14. Import Android Studio settings dialog box appears. Click on the Do not Import settings and then
Ok button
15. Data sharing dialog box appears. Click on Don’t send button
16. Android Studio setup wizard opens. Click the Next button in all windows and click on the Finish
button at the end
17. Android Studio interface opens. This indicates that Android Studio is successfully installed.

2.2.2 To install Android Studio latest version


1. Go to the website https://developer.android.com/studio/
2. Click on DOWNLOAD ANDROID STUDIO button and do the installation as specifed above
3. While practising the tutorials, you may find differences in the interface due to the version change
