Good morning, class!

B. Motivation
Whenever you go to somewhere, were you able to see some road signs?
What are the rules that you usually see?
C. Presentation
From the rules that you said a while ago, what can be the consequence if you don’t follow those?
In our classroom, what are the rules that you need to follow?
Site a rule and then tell what could be the consequence if you don’t follow.

This morning we’re going to tackle Modals.


Do you have any idea?
Modals are special kind of auxiliary or helping verbs. It is a verb that cannot work without another verb.
These include can, will, must, ought to, may, might, would, could, should, and shall.
FOCUS: can and could, must, should, may and might
A. May, can, and could are used in polite expressions that request permission.

In a polite request, could may have a present or future meaning, not past. Can also expresses ability or
capability while may and could expresses possibility.

Ex. May I borrow your pencil?


Could I borrow your pencil?
Can I borrow your pencil?

B. Must is used to express stronger necessity.


Ex. If you want to study in college, you must take a college admission test.
C. Should or should not express a range of advisability from mere suggestions to a statement of responsibility
or obligation
Ex:
You should save more for the rainy days.
You should not eat much before going to bed.
D. Might and could express possibility
Ex:
The clouds are dark. It might rain.
ACTIVITY
Let the students construct sentences using the modals.

ASSESSMENT:
Work in group.
Create a poster of rules for our classroom using modals.
