The oil trade has been a driving force behind Saudi Arabia’s economy for too long, but

now
the country plans to diversify its economy beyond just black gold. In fact, if what they are

planning comes to fruition, they will become the major powerhouse of the global economy.
The state has introduced a plan called Saudi Vision 2030, which was first introduced by
Prince Muhammad bin Salman in 2017.
The Saudi Vision 2030 plan aims to provide more jobs, elevate the country’s position in the
trade business, improve the economy through tourism, and modify public service sectors
like health, education, and much more.
Well, these are not just the TED talks, but Saudi Arabia is already looking forward to several
mega projects that will transform the state, placing the country as the heart of Arab and
Islamic Worlds. Let’s look at what Saudi Arabia has planned that is just out of this world!

The Line
Saudi Arabia is renowned for introducing the most complex infrastructure designs as its
development projects. The Line is one of them. The country plans to build this mega Project
in the NEOM city that plays a crucial part in making Saudi Arabia a globally focused state.
According to the plan, this futuristic city will be organized vertically, sandwiched between
two glass walls on both sides. These glass walls are estimated to be 170 km long, 200 meters
wide, and 500 meters tall.
Not only that, the whole line city will be home to 9 million people, who will have access to
all the necessities of life just a 5-minute walk away. The state has already started the project
in 2021. However, this project is still controversial among people regarding the debates on
human rights and environmental impacts.
The project will cost Saudi Arabia a staggering 500 billion dollars; that is quite the amount! It
seems like the state is already conscious about winning the global economic power status.

Trojena
This is another NEOM-based mega Project that will hugely impact the tourism sector in
Saudi Arabia. Prince Muhammad bin Salman announced this project in May 2022.
This project aims to improve the tourist side of the state, making it more captivating and
unique. The architectural design of this master project is designed by a German-based
design firm, which made sure to introduce every significant modification to make it
captivating enough to attract the tourist’s attention.
But what will be in there for the tourists?
Well, the destination will include a ski village, ultra-luxury family resorts, retail stores,
restaurants, cafes, and much more. The spot will also have entertainment attractions,
including music, art, and sporting events. The goal is to attract around 700,000 visitors and
7,000 permanent residents to live within the area.
Additionally, Trojena will raise more than 10,000 jobs in the tourism sector upon its
completion.

Sindalah
Sindalah is another tourist destination on the Red Sea Coast, Saudi Arabia. It will be the first
tourist destination to open in the megacity, contributing to the state’s overall economy.
The Sindalah Ireland resort will be the first of ten regions completed as part of the NEOM
mega-development in Saudi Arabia. The Ireland spreads over an 840,000 square feet area,
encompassing all the natural sights and panoramic imagery around it, which makes it a
perfect spot to spend your vacations.
The plan tells that Sindalah resort will have several upscale hotels, a large yachting marina, a
wellness center, a beach club, luxury shopping outlets, and more.
The visitors can enjoy several water activities like kite surfing and skiing at the resort. Prince
Muhammad bin Salman didn’t compromise on the architecture of the yacht club as he
opted for the World’s best architectural companies to beautify the visiting spots here.

OXAGON
As the name identifies, this project is octagonal when looking from the upside. It is a floating
city that will float in the Red Sea, which averages 500 meters deep. The officials call it “the
world’s largest floating structure,” with an estimate of it being 33 times bigger than New
York City.
“OXAGON will be the catalyst for economic growth and diversity in NEOM and the Kingdom,
further meeting our ambitions under Vision 2030. OXAGON will contribute to redefining the
world’s approach to industrial development in the future, protecting the environment while
creating jobs and growth for NEOM. It will contribute to Saudi Arabia’s regional trade and
commerce and support creating a new focal point for global trade flows. I am pleased to see
that business and development have started on the ground, and we look forward to the
city’s rapid expansion.” said Mohammed bin Salman.
This multi-billion-dollar city will surround nature, keeping humans attached to the natural
habitat despite separating the natural world from the human soul. The OXAGON will also
establish the World’s fully integrated port and supply chain ecosystem, which will
economically benefit the state.

Amaala
This is another tourist destination being developed on the Red Sea Coast of Saudi Arabia. It
is the most ultra-luxury tourist destination, as compared to the others included in the Saudi
Vision 2030. This project spreads over 4,000 square kilometers in size that encompasses
luxury hotels, villas, and more.
Half of the construction will probably be completed by the mid-2024. Once the project
reaches its middle, there will be around 1300 hotel rooms spread over different resorts.
As per the plan, the project is expected to finish by 2027. The area will have luxury
apartments, hotels, and over 900 villas for the visitors to stay in.
This $6.62 Billion project will only welcome a limited amount of visitors to preserve the
environmental impact around the area.
There, the British firm foster+ partners are creating “the World’s first fully immersive marine
life center.” They are also planning to build an airport for the Amaala resort.

The Red Sea Project

Looking at the Saudi Vision 2030 mega projects, we can figure out one thing: in fact, the
most prominent thing you all might have noticed…the Red Sea Project!
The Red Sea Project is another tourist destination that is being developed under the
supervision of two architectural teams. Both teams are working hand in hand to build the
project on 90 undeveloped islands between Umluj and Al Wajh on Saudi Arabia’s West
coast.
The site will have over 100 villas for visitors to stay by the luxurious site. The project will be
completed in 2030. By that time, over 23 islands will be developed with elegant hotels and
villas built on them.
Saudi Arabia seems fascinated with the river side of the state, or maybe that site is more
resourceful or captivating than other sites. That can be the one reason for Saudia’s focus on
improving the seaside by creating extravagant tourist destinations for visitors.

Diriyah Gate
Diriyah Gate is the second most significant mega Project for Saudi Arabia. The reason why it
is an important site is that it preserves the traditional, pure essence of Arab culture in urban
form.
This masterplan was designed around the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Al Turaif, which
represents the modern Saudi Kingdom’s original capital. This project depicts the Saudi roots
as it aims to preserve the natural heritage, with the conservation of the natural
environment, which is a top priority for Saudi Arabia.
One thing that makes the site interesting to go to is the incorporation of around 100 stories
in different art forms, such as activities, physical assets, trails, sculptures, and way-findings.
Diriyah Gate also incorporates Arenas, an Opera House, a Convention Centre, the Museum
of Contemporary Art, and the Grand Mosque. It also has an Innovation Cluster along a grand
boulevard that connects to King Saud University to the east of the site.
Overall, this site is an ideal preservation of Saudi Arabia’s originality and roots.

No doubt, Saudi Arabia is an economically strong nation, and they leave no stone unturned
when it comes to innovation and building something unprecedented.
These out-of-this-world mega projects are living examples! The World is curious to see these
plans turning into reality by 2030.
