How Assignment B Will Be Assessed June 2024
▪ To achieve the minimum required to pass this assignment you need to:
✓ include all the components listed on the platform and in the checklist
✓ produce a lesson that would achieve its stated aims and fit into the time available
✓ use the specified procedure
✓ pass all the assessment criteria listed below.
PPP Table
• The table is completed to a basic standard. There may be some MFP-related
inaccuracies, and some relevant elements of MFP may go unexplored.
• There may be inconsistencies between the table and rest of the assignment, e.g.,
a task may be described but it does not match what is actually in the lesson plan.
Lesson Plan/Materials
• A suitable or partially suitable age-appropriate context has been provided.
• There is an adequate controlled practice activity included, which focuses on
accuracy.
• The freer task activity has elements of free production and is somewhat focused
on fluency.
• Teaching procedure is outlined to an extent, but may lack detail. Timing may not
be realistic.
• There is an adequate range of materials that are clearly presented and appropriate
for the ages and level of the learners.
Paragraph
• The justification of material selection is adequate and refers to the aids (such as
Power Point presentations, board plans, timelines, or other visual aids), the age
range, and explains why the selection is appropriate for this class.
• There is reference to the selection of the procedures and interactions of the
students.
Teacher Language
• The use of graded language is sufficient to convey simple concepts, though there
may be some words that would be confusing to students.
• Some, but not all, elements of the model sentence, form and function are elicited
from students.
Overall
Merit
• All the assessment criteria are fulfilled but some sections are not considered
sufficiently.
• The assignment shows an adequate understanding of the related sections of the
course.
PPP Table
• The table demonstrates a good knowledge of MFP with most relevant information
included. There may be some minor inaccuracies.
• The table and the rest of the assignment correspond for the most part.
Lesson Plan/Materials
• A clear, age-appropriate context is provided and will only work for the First
Conditional.
• There is a well-chosen or self-designed controlled practice activity included, which
focuses on accuracy and there is some focus on form and meaning.
• The freer task activity is primarily focused on fluency.
• Teaching procedure is clearly outlined, and timing is mainly realistic.
• All necessary materials are provided that are attractively and clearly presented,
appropriate for the ages and level of the learners.
Paragraph
• The justification of the material selection is adequate and refers to the aids (such
as Power Point presentations, board plans, timelines, or other visual aids), the age
range and explains why the selection is appropriate for this class.
• There is detailed reference to the selection of the procedures and interactions of
the learners.
Teacher Language
• The use of graded language is sufficient to convey simple and more complex
concepts, though there may be a few words that would be confusing to students.
• The key elements of the model sentence, form and function are, for the most part,
elicited from students.
Overall
Distinction
• All the assessment criteria are fulfilled, and all sections are well considered.
• The assignment shows a thorough understanding of the related sections of the
course.
• The lesson would achieve all of the stated aims and would fit into the 60 minutes
available.
• All the lesson stages are well planned.
PPP Table
• The table is completed to a high standard, and all relevant aspects of MFP are
thoroughly and accurately presented.
• The table corresponds perfectly to the rest of the assignment.
Lesson Plan/Materials
• A clear, age-appropriate context is provided and will only work for the First
Conditional. The context is also sufficiently engaging to be sustained throughout
the lesson.
• There is a very well-designed controlled practice activity included, which focuses
on accuracy, form and meaning.
Paragraph
• The justification of material selection is detailed and refers to the aids (such as
Power Point presentations, board plans, timelines, or other visual aids), the age
range and interests of the students and explains why the selection is appropriate
for this class and theme of the lesson.
• There is detailed reference to the selection of the procedures and interactions of
the learners.
Teacher Language
• The use of graded language effectively conveys simple and more complex
concepts and ideas.
• All key elements of the model sentence, form and function are elicited from
students.
▪ The tutor will give an overall band for the whole assignment and some written feedback.
▪ The main consideration in awarding grades is how successful the lesson you have created for
the class described within the requirements of the assignment brief. The tutor will look at how
well you have realised each aspect of the assignment.
▪ Higher grades will be awarded to lessons, materials and teaching materials that would
promote enthusiastic participation and fully achieve the stated aims of the lesson.
▪ Language analysis, teacher language and the quality of the whole lesson carry more weight
than other aspects of the assignment.
Resubmissions
▪ Assignments which have not passed all assessment criteria will not be graded and will need to
be resubmitted.
▪ If you need to resubmit, you can make a maximum of three attempts in total on each
assignment.
This assignment is designed to cover the following TEFL Academy/QUALIFI Assessment Criteria
