1. What is the Most Realistic tire contact area? Draw the most realistic contact area for an 18-
kip (80KN) axel load with a tire pressure of 80psi. What are the other configurations of
contact area that have been used for pavement design?

2. What is the AASHTO Road Test? What was the objective of that test? What are the major
findings of the AASHTO Road Test?

3. Draw some typical cross-sections of Flexible Pavement and what are the materials that are
using for each item. Briefly identify the material characteristics of each layer according to the
Sri Lankan standards (for low-volume roads)
