1. Quantitative paradigm
Watson (2015) stated quantitative research includes a set of methods for the
systematic study of social phenomena using statistical or numerical data. Thus,
quantitative research involves measurement and assumes that the phenomenon being
studied is measurable. It's about analyzing trends and connections in data and
validating the measurements that have been performed.
According to Cohen (1980)Quantitative research is defined as social research
using empirical methods and experiences testify. Furthermore, Creswell (1994) gives
a very concise definition quantitative research is a type of "interpretive" research.
Analyze phenomena by collecting numerical data mathematically sound methods
(especially statistics).
So, quantitative research is a research that analysis some numerical data to
describe, explain, predict, or control phenomena of interest. Quantitative research will
answer the hypothesis or research question. Quantitative research use large sample to
provide statistically meaningful data.

2. Qualitative Paradigm
According to Patton (2005), Qualitative research analyzes data from direct field
observations, extensive public interviews, and written documents. Qualitative
researchers engage in natural inquiry and inductive research into real-world settings to
generate rich narrative descriptions and construct case studies.
Pathak, Jena, Kalra (2013) stated qualitative research focuses on understanding a
study question as a humanistic or idealistic approach. Although, the quantitative
method is a more reliable method because it is based on about numbers and methods
that can be objectified and disseminated by other researchers. The qualitative method
is used to understand people's beliefs, experiences, attitudes, behavior and interaction.
It generates non-numeric data.
Based on the explanation above, we can conclude that qualitative research is the
research to analyse the data about humanistic, so this research extended period of time
to collect the data and the result of the research generates in non-numeric data.

3. Mixed Method Paradigm

In the past three years, various scholars have been arguing and arguing endlessly.
Concepts, methods, and quality standards for research using a combination of
qualitative and quantitative methods (Creswell, 2003~ Greene & Caracelli, 1997~
Miles & Huberman, 1994; Newman & Mercedes, 1998; Tashakkori & Tedley, 1998,
2003). develop a large body of literature has emerged from these discussions devoted
to worldview issues, nomenclature, typology, design, analysis and evaluation of
mixed methods research. a lot of as the field of mixed methods is still evolving, more
work needs to be done.
This inconsistency has been mentioned by many scholars (Morse, 1991;
Sandelowski,2003; Teddlie and Tashakkori, 2003). A distinction needs to be made
between studies that use two types of data without careful integration and those that
integrate their findings. Qualitative and quantitative chains/arms have been expressed
by some scholars. There have also been attempts to distinguish single phase/intrachain
mixing (see Patton, 1990; Tashakkori & Teddlie, 1998) a study and
cross-phase/strand hybrid (eg sequential design; Creswell, 2003).
A quick search of the internet or academic databases will reveal a wide variety of
research in the social, behavioral and health sciences is specifically marked as mixed
method. A quick comparison of these studies shows that they have been taken into
account "Hybrid" because they use qualitative or quantitative methods in one or more
fields the following way:
1. Two types of research questions (with quantitative and qualitative approach)
2. The manner in which the research questions are developed (participatory vs
preplanned)
3. Two types of sampling procedures (e.g., probability and purposive; see Teddlie
& Yu, 2006)
4. Two types of data collection procedures (e.g., focus groups and surveys)
5. Two types of data (e.g., numerical and textual)
6. Two types of data analysis (statistical and thematic), and
7. Two types of conclusion (emic and etic representations “objective” and
“subjective”
Based on the explanation above, we can conclude mixed method is the method
that use two kind of method, they are quantitative and qualitative. Mixed method is
still developing.
