Tools for Data Analysis
Today, there are many various for data analysis, ranging from easy-to-use
spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets to advanced options
like Python and R.

In Data Analysis Essentials (DAiE) series, we will focus on an exciting

combination: Microsoft Forms for easy data collection and Microsoft Excel
for a wide range of tasks, including data cleaning, analysis, and creating
eye-catching visualisations. Come with us as we explore this powerful duo
that makes data analysis simpler and better!

Logic Branching
• Logic branching, also known as conditional
logic, allows for a personalized and dynamic
survey experience.
• Questions and paths change based on
respondents' previous answers, making the
survey more tailored and efficient.

Use branching logic in your

form
Steps to Create Logic Branching
Accessing Logic Branching:
• Open your form in Microsoft Forms.
• Select the question for which you want to create logic branching.
Setting Conditions:
• Choose “…." for the selected question.
• Click on “Add branching" to reveal conditions.
• Define conditions based on respondent answers.
Creating Paths:
• Specify which question or section to jump to for each condition.
• Save your logic branching settings.
Exploring Collaborative Data Collection
Real-Time Collaboration: Microsoft Forms supports real-time collaboration,
allowing multiple users to work on a form simultaneously. This feature
enhances the efficiency of data collection by enabling teamwork and
reducing the time required to create or edit forms.
Co-Authoring: This feature allows multiple users to collaborate on the same
form in real-time. This means that you and your colleagues can make edits,
add questions, or modify the form concurrently, ensuring that everyone's
input is considered.
Exporting Data to Microsoft Excel
Accessing Response Data:
• Open the Microsoft Forms platform.
• Navigate to the specific form for which you want to export responses.
Exporting to Excel:
• Click on the "Responses" tab.
• Choose "Open in Excel" to initiate the export process.
Saving the Excel File:

• Save the file to your desired location on your device or OneDrive.
Respectful Data Collection

Authentication Check:

• Ensure that your Microsoft Forms are set to require authentication to

access and submit responses.

• Review and update permissions to limit access only to necessary

individuals.
Respectful Data Collection (cont.)

Data Collection Review:

• Quickly review your forms to ensure you are collecting only necessary
information.

• Remove any unnecessary or sensitive fields to minimize data exposure.

Respectful Data Collection (cont.)

Communication and Consent :

• Add a brief, clear message at the beginning of your form explaining the
purpose of data collection and assuring respondents of data privacy.

• Ensure that respondents understand how their data will be used and if it
will be shared with third parties.

Respecting Privacy
Quran: "O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption.
Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other.
Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would

Merciful." (Quran, 49:12)
