2.2 Main board functions

Table 2.1 Main board functions

Unit Board Function

Power supply
The front stage of primary power block is provided
with reverse connection/EMC protection filters and
undervoltage/overtolgage protection circuits.
In the primary power block, voltage is reduced from

36
9–38 VDC to 5.8 VDC.
Then, the 5.8 VDC voltage is reduced to 3.3 VDC,
and the 3.3 VDC voltage is reduced to 1.8 VDC, to

11
use the power for the digital. Also, a voltage of 5.8
VDC is reduced to 5.0 VDC and 5.2 VDC, so that the
power can be used for the sensors, GPS cores, and
antennas.

27
Antenna unit (GNSS core)
Supplies power to the GNSS-LNA antenna and
02
calculates the “UTC, position, speed, and carrier
phase of GPSL1” from the analog signals from the
MAIN antenna.
(20P8193A) These data are sent to the digital via the serial port.
24

Sensor
GS-1001 It has an IMU (Inertia Measurement Unit) composed
20

(Antenna of a triaxial gyroscope and a triaxial accelerometer.

unit) Sensor information is converted into analog signals
and sent to the digital via the serial port.
an

Digital
Calculates the orientation between the antennas,
pitch, speed, and location, based on the information
m

from the two GNSS cores.

It also calculates the roll, pitch, bearing, speed, and
location from the IMU output in the strap-down
jk

system (with reference to the direction of

gravitational force). These data allow the user to
sl

quickly obtain highly accurate roll, pitch and bearing

information.
These data are sent to the display unit via CAN.
Antenna
Combines radio waves fed at 2 points and inputs
GPS signals to the LNA.
GPS-LNA LNA
(20P8212C) It is composed of a band path filter, 1st AMP, and
2nd AMP. The back stage of antenna element and
the front stage of S.FL2 connector are protected
from surges.

single-feed system.

36
Power supply
The front stage of primary power block is provided
with reverse connection/EMC protection filters and
undervoltage/overtolgage protection circuits. The

11
output stage, where power is supplied to other
blocks, has overvoltage protection circuits.
In the primary power block, 12 - 24 VDC is converted

27
into a single output of 12 VDC. The 12 VDC voltage
is reduced to 5.1 VDC, then the 5.1 VDC voltage is
reduced to 3.3 VDC, and the 3.3 VDC voltage is
reduced to 1.45 VDC and 1.5 VDC, to use the power

20

Digital
Communicates with the antenna unit using the
an

built-in CAN module, and displays and outputs

(serial/LAN) obtained data, such as time, position,
speed, roll, pitch, heave, and triaxial speed.
It is composed of a digital isolator, CAN transceiver,

5.7 Q&A
Q1. Can I update the software of the antenna unit? Chapter 4
You cannot update the software of the antenna unit on site.

Q2. Is there any work required before or after software update? Chapter 4
There is no work required.
The setting values remain the same after the software update.

Q3. Software update fails. Chapter 4

36
If you insert a USB into GS-1002 and reboot the equipment before updating the
software, the update will not be executed properly. Also, make sure that the software has
a proper folder structure (see Section 4.2.3 of this manual) before copying it to a USB.

11
Observe the software procedure in Chapter 4.

Q4. How can I move to the service menu? Chapter 3

27
To enable the service menu, press the panel keys in the following order in the 3 axis
speed graphic screen:
02
↑↑↓↓←→←→1111

Q5. Is any backup battery used? Chapter 2

24

No backup battery is used.

Q6. Is there a check sheet that can be used during marine operation (such as those
20

used for DS-30)

Since the operation of the equipment as a speed meter is the same as that of DS series,
you can use the System Setup Data displayed on the Service Division website.
an

Q7. When a sub display (DS-600) is connected, only ROT and Heading are
displayed.
m

- Check the DS-600 setting to make sure that Operation is set to Sub.
Check the GS-100 settings to make sure that the baud rate is 38,400 bps, the sentence
jk

is GGA, VBW, and ZDA are 1s, and HDT and ROT are 0.1 s.
For details, see Section 8.6.2 of GS-100 Operator’s Manual.
sl

* To output GGA, you need to configure GNSS Sentence Output to Enable in the
service menu. (See Chapter 3 Service Menu of this manual.)
- Check that P sentences (PFEC) are output from the DATA port of GS-1002.

Q8. Can I remove “- - -” from the NAVIGATION screen of sub display DS-600?
You cannot remove it.

Q9. The sub display DS-600 sometimes shows “- - -” for the port-stbd speed of the
stern.
Check the settings described in Q7. Then check the connections for any problems.

Q10. How can I display the service menu on the sub display DS-600?
While holding down the DISP key, press and hold down the power key until you hear a
beep sound. The screen below appears. In 90 seconds after this screen is displayed, the
serviceman menu appears on the screen.

36
11
27
02
Q11. The 3 axis speed screen does not appear on the sub display DS-600.
24

The 3 axis speed display uses VBW. Check that VBW containing 3 axis speed
information is output from GS-1002 (DATA1 port) to DS-600.
Also note that if DS-600 is set to STW display, the water tracking speed must be
20

externally input to GS-1002 as well.

If the device mode is THD, DS-600 cannot show the berthing screen. In such a case,
change the mode to SDME.
