of variable frequency. Calculate

02. An ac generator consists of a coil of 100 turns and cross sectional area 3m 2 rotating at a constant angular
speed of 60 rad/sec in a uniform magnetic field of 0.04 T. The resistance of the coil is 500Ω. Calculate
a) Maximum current drawn from the generator
b) maximum power dissipation in the coil [1.44A, 518.4W]
03. Explain the terms reactance and impedance as applied to components of an AC circuit. A variable frequency
230 V alternating voltage source is connected across a series combination L=5.0 H, C=80𝝁F and R=40 Ω.
Calculate
a) The angular frequency of the source which drives the circuit in resonance
b) The amplitude of current at resonating frequency.
c) Rms potential drop across the inductor at resonating frequency [50Rad/S, 5.75 √𝟐 , 1437.5V]
04. A bulb of resistance 10 Ω connected to an inductor L is series with an AC source marked 100 V 50 Hz. If the
phrase angle between the voltage and the current is 𝝅/𝟒 , radian, calculate the value of L. Briefly explain how
the brightness of the bulb changes, when
(a) Number of turns of the inductor is reduced
(b) A capacitor of reactance XC = XL is included in series in the same circuit [ Increases ]
05. An inductor L, a capacity 20𝝁F, a resister 10Ω are connected in series with an AC score of frequency 50Hz.

connected in series to 220V AC mains. Calculate the power consumed by

11. When an alternating voltage of 220 V is applied across a device X, a current of 0.5 A flows through the circuit
and is in phase with the applied voltage. When the same voltage is applied across another device Y the same
current again flows through the circuit, but it leads the applied voltage by 𝝅/𝟐 radians.
a) Name of the devices X and Y
b) Calculate the current flowing in the circuit when same voltage is applied across the series combination of
