computers in the 1950s. Initially, the concept of wide area networking
14
originated in the United States, United Kingdom, and France. The
U.S. founded NASA and the Advanced Research Projects Agency
Network (ARPANET) as a part of the race between the Soviets and
Americans over space and technology in the 1960s. Schools and
universities started allowing more science, math and technology
classes and hence, this set the beginning of networking of computers
and the Internet was invented. 2. A web page refers to an individual
digital document available on WWW whereas a website is a collection
of related web pages. A web page may contain text, audio, video,
graphics and links to other pages whereas a website can contain
many web pages, which are linked together and share a common
theme, look and feel. 3. The text which is underlined and blue in
colour on the web page is known as hyperlinks. A hyperlink connects
different web pages on the internet. Clicking on a hyperlink takes us
to a different page. 4. To access Internet services on a computer
system, there is a need of an Internet connection from an Internet
Service Provider (ISP), modem and a web browser. 5. Do it yourself

management. Some features of file management are : (i) Saves
time : When files are managed on a computer, it is easy to find it
when needed without wasting time. (ii) User friendly : Organised
files and folders are easy to locate and then it will be easier for us to
share them without any chaos. (iii) Performs multiple
operations : We can copy, paste, rename and delete any file or
folder we want. (iv) Data security : When we know how to
manage our files and folders, then it remains secure at one place and
we can even learn how to create a backup of it. 2. The steps to move
a file or folder are : (i) Open This PC window and locate the file
which we want to move. (ii) Right-click on the selection and click Cut
(or press Ctrl + X) from the shortcut menu that appears. (iii) Right-
click anywhere in the blank area of the folder where we want to move
15

science and technology, business, finance, accounts, communication,
etc. 3. The computers of first generation used Vacuum tubes as the
basic component for memory and circuitry for Central Processing Unit
whereas the computers of second generation used semiconductor
transistors instead of vacuum tubes. In first generation of computers
machine code was used as the programming language whereas in the
second generation of computers high-level programming languages
such as FORTRAN and COBOL were used. 4. An Integrated Circuit
