III PROCEDURE:

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Activity
1. Pre-activity (Greeting, Prayer,
Checking of Attendance,
Classroom
Orderliness/Cleanliness)

members all throughout the group and the last
students on the group must write what he/she
received on the board. The more the number
of correct messages in a shortest period is the
winner and will get a reward.

3. Lesson Presentation
(Brainstorming, Lecture Method,
Inductive Method)

Class I am going to show you some artworks Okay ma’am.

of random artists.
(The teacher shows artworks)

Class what have you notice in the first

picture?
Yes, Student 1?
The first picture is a drawing using only
Very good. lines.
Now for the second picture?
Yes, Student 2? The second picture is an art consisting of
shapes and colors.
Very good.
The artworks I’ve shown you are artworks
consisting of line, shape, form, color, texture
and space.

Based on what I said, who can guess the

lesson for today?
Yes Student 3.
Ma’am the lesson for today is the Elements
Very good. of Art.

Our lesson for today is about the Elements of

Visual Art.

But before we proceed to our topic, let me ask

you what is an art for you?
Yes, Student 4? Art is an expression of one’s own feelings
and ideas.
Very well said.

Any other answer?

Yes, Student 5?
It is works created by artists.
Correct.

Class, the word ‘art’ came from Greek word

“artezein” which means “to prepare”.

For further explanation, art is an expression of

an individual or community’s views, values,
ideas, or feelings in a creative form.

The arts are classified as Performing and

Visual arts. Performing arts are forms of art
which use the artists’ bodies, faces,
movements, and presence as media. These are
performed music, theatre, and dance. Visual
arts focus on artworks that are seen; drawing,
painting, sculpture, architecture, printmaking,
and photography.

On our lesson, we are just going to focus on

visual arts specifically elements of visual arts.
Who can tell me again the elements of visual
arts?
Yes, Student 6? The elements of visual arts are line, shape,
form, color, texture and space.
Right.
We are going to discuss it one by one.
Let’s start with a line, who can define line?
Yes, Student 7?
A line is a path that a point takes through
Very well said! space.
A line is a mark made by a moving point.
What are the different kinds of line?
Student 8. horizontal line, vertical line, diagonal line,
curved line.
Very good.
We have 7 kinds of lines; horizontal line,
vertical line, diagonal line, curved line, zigzag
line, dotted line, and broken line.
(Discuss it one by one with corresponding
sample pictures each.)

The second elements of arts are shape.

Any idea about the term shape?
Student 9: Shape for me is simply an
Nice! outline of an object.
Any other hand? Student 10: It is an area that define things.
Good. Shape is a 2-dimentional figure created
when a line become connected and encloses
shape.

There are two basic types of shape, the

geometric shapes and organic shapes.
Who would like to elaborate the two types of
shape?
Yes, Student 11?
Geometric shapes are precise shapes that
look as if they were made with a ruler or
other drawing tools while organic shapes
Very well said! are not regular or even.
Geometric shapes have smooth even edges
and are measurable on the other hand have
more complicated edges and are usually
found in nature.

Who can now give me an example of Student 12: Square, circle, triangle,
geometric shapes? rectangle, oval, etc…

Correct.
How about example of organic shape?
Student 13: Leaves, seashells, flowers, etc.
Very good.
These are sample pictured of the types of
shapes.

The third elements of arts are form.

Shape and form are closely related, who
would like to differentiate shape from form?
Yes, Student 14? Shape is a two-dimensional figure while
form appears in three-dimensional.
Precisely!
Shape is only two-dimensional which can be
measured by its height and width on the
contrary form is a shape that has become
three-dimensional such as cube, sphere,
pyramid or cylinder. (This are sample picture
of shapes turning into form).

Next element of art is known to be has the

most effect on a work of art, what do you Student 15: Color
think it is?
And where do you think the color is derived Student 16: Color is derived from reflected
from? light.

Very good!
White light from the sun is the combination of
all colors. When light falls on the object,
some of the light is absorbed by the object.
The rest of the light bounces off.

What do you think is the importance of color

in an artwork? Color has a powerful effect on artworks
Yes, Student 17? and on the impressions of the viewers.

Very good.
Color has three properties; the hue, value and
intensity. Student 18: Red, yellow, and blue.
Hue, is the colors name. What are the primary
hues?

Good. These colors are called primary

because they can be mixed to make all the
other hues. All other hues come from them.
They make every other hue except white.

Two primary hues are mixed together to

produce a secondary hue. Student 19: The secondary hues are green,
What are the secondary hues, and what hues orange and violet.
are mixed to produce it? Student 20: red + yellow = orange
blue + yellow = green
blue + red = violet

Perfect!
When we mixed primary hue and secondary
Student 21: yellow-green, and red-violet
hue we produced intermediate or tertiary hue.
Give me an example of tertiary hue?

Very good!
Another tertiary hues are red-orange, blue-
green, yellow-orange, blue-violet etc.

Value is the second property of color

concerned with the lightness and darkness. Student 22: The value of hue changes
How can we change the value of a certain through addition of black or white.
hue?

Well said.
This is what we known as the tint and shade.

The third properties of color is intensity

which is the brightness or dullness of a color.
Yes Ma’am.
Are you familiar with the color wheel?
Now we are going to discuss complementary
colors, monochromatic colors, achromatic
colors, analogous colors, triad, and warm or
cool color schemes with the aids of color
wheel. (these are sampled picture of each)

The sixth element of art is the texture.

Who can define the term texture?
It is the way the surface of an object feels.
Yes, Student 22?

Very good.
Texture is the surface quality or "feel" of an
object, its smoothness, roughness, softness,
etc. it can be tactile, artificial, and visual.
(these are some example of the three kinds of
texture)

The last elements of art is the space.

What do you think is space as an element of Student 23: Space refers to the distance or
art? area within objects.

Very good!
Space is basically divided into 3 parts:
Foreground, Middle Ground and Background.
The two types of space are positive space, the
actual object(s) within the artwork and
negative space, the area in and around the
objects. (look on this examples)

Did you understand our discussion class? Yes Ma’am.

Any question? Clarification? None

Ok, again what are the elements of visual Student 24: the elements of visual arts are
arts? line, shape, form, color, texture and space.
(with further explanation)

Very good, it seems that you understood our

discussion very well.

I have a question class.

B. Abstraction
What do you call the building blocks of art
creation and the tools that artists use to make
art?
Yes, Student 25? These are the Elements of Visual Arts the
lines, shape, form, color, texture, and
Very good. space.

C. Analysis
Why is it important to know the elements of
art? Student 26: Artists manipulate elements
such as line, shape, form, color, texture,
D. Application and space and apply it to form an art.
Create expressive works of art using art
elements, including line, shape, form, color,
texture and space. Artworks will depend on
your choice it could be a drawing, painting,
collage, papier mache sculpture, etc. As of
now you can start planning or outlining on
your chosen artworks. You can continue
working on it at home or on your vacant
hours.

IV ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION: Snow Balling

The class will be divided into two, they will form two circle. The teacher
will play music along with it is a crumpled paper rotating throughout the
group, as the music stop the one who is presently holding the crumpled
paper will get the outer layer of the snow ball. Each layer of the crumpled
paper has a question they need to answer. The group who got the highest
correct score is the winner.

V ASSIGNMENT/AGREEMENT:

In your notebook, answer the following intended for our next discussion;
1. Define principles of art.
2. Define the following principles of art; harmony, emphasis,
proportion, rhythm, balance, variety, unity, and movement.
