Duct Work Installation.
Method of Statement for Duct Work
Installation
1 Scope
The purpose of this method statement is to describe the construction methodology adapted for
the execution of Ductwork Systems Installation at the Project PPC25 MAAYO MEDICAL
PROJECT.
2 References
1. Contract specification
2. Approved “FOR CONSTRUCTION” shop drawings
3. Material Submittal
To control and ensure the construction work is carried out to the required contract specification
and approved shop drawings.
Notifying QC engineer and issuing the RFI (request for inspection and approval) in timely
manner 24 hours in advance. The relevant reports are to be submitted to the Engineer
representative.
Accompanying the Engineer’s representative for ongoing inspection and obtain his approval to
proceed with next activity.
4 Materials
All materials shall comply with contract specification requirements and approved material
submittals.

Installation
Ductwork supports shall be installed based on the approved shop drawings, and 250mm clearance
from suspended ceiling. Leveled supports or hangers will be placed within 300mm of any 45 - 90
bend.
Threaded rod hangers will have thread adjustment in either direction available after leveling of
ductwork and associated plenum boxes. Ductwork passing through non fire rated walls and floors
will be adequately supported on either side. Supports are to be fixed at correct levels checking
the bracket material is compatible with the installation and the correct method used for thermal
insulation
Prior to lay-outing and fabrication of duct, all duct material shall comply to section VE- Ventilation
System on the Technical Specification on mechanical works. Fabrication of ducts will not be at
project site.
5.2.1. Fabrication-All ducts will be fabricated and assemble outside the project site, and then it will
be brought to site ready for installation.
5.2.2. Preparations-Scaffoldings shall be assembled firmly prior to usage of the duct man or
installer for safety. And all tools must be ready for use.
5.2.3. Jointing-All duct jointing shall be done in a good workmanlike manner, ensuring that it
would be smooth and straight.
5.2.4. Sealants- Duct sealants on joints shall be properly done to assure no leakage.
5.2.5. Duct Testing-Once duct has been satisfactorily install, light testing will follow in the
presence of the site managers or project managers.
5.2.6. Equipment installation- Once the fans and blowers like In line fan arrived, it should be
independently supported from main structure and not block work walls or sub-structure.
5.2.7. Air Terminal Device Installation- The most important point on grill installation activities is,
the grill shall not be directly bolted to narrow sectioned ducts. If the installation is executed directly
by bolting to the narrow sectioned ducts, the air flow will be reduced and not requested sounds will
occur. In such cases the grill shall be installed to a tee piece so that the damper can be adjusted.
In the area where the ceiling is suspended, to prevent the vibration the diffusers may be fixed to
the plenum box, and the plenum box may be fixed to the upper level floor slab.

6. Safety
1. Prior to commencement, all activities shall be coordinated with the project safety officer, who will
assess the associated risks if any, and monitor the implementation of the project safety plan and
liaise with the construction team to ensure a safe working environment.
2. The safety officer in charge to ensure that all workers are equipped with their P.P.E throughout
the construction work.
3. The safety officer in charge in coordination with the construction manager is to study, organize
and control the traffic flow during the operation of this working procedure.
4. The safety officer in charge to organize and conduct necessary periodic toolbox meetings for
supervisory staff and manpower, to ensure the construction team are well aware of safety
requirements.
7.1 All the materials shall comply with approved Material Submittal Approval.
7.2. The materials and hand tools will be checked properly by storekeeper before issue to site in
good condition.
7.3. The storekeeper will check and issue of all project materials with the material receipt form
which signed by site engineer.
7.4. All project materials will be identified and stored in location with the same type where space
permits. Project materials and equipments in open storage will be adequately covered to
protect it from the weather conditions.
