ASSIGNMENT

This assignment involved TWO (2) sections. Section A requires you to create Iiles using Ms
Word and Ms Excel while Section B requires you to create Iiles using Ms Access and Ms Power
Point. You are only allowed to use both Ms Word and Ms Excel soItware applications in Section
A, while Ms Access and Ms Power Point in Section B. You are NOT allowed to use any other
soItware than the mentioned soItware applications. Each question in each section has its own
soItware application requirements. Read all oI the questions careIully to Iully understand the
requirements beIore starting the assignment. This assignment is an INDIVIDUAL Assignment.

In conclusion, students should be able to:

Section A
(Total: 50 marks)

Pelangi Travel & Tours is one oI the leading travel agency in Malaysia. Established in 2009, the
travel agency provides tour, hotel and accommodations arrangement Ior its clients. urrently the
agency has 15 employees with various job speciIications. For the last 2 years, documentation oI
client`s speciIications, package price calculations and promotional activities are done manually
on paper.

The Manager oI the company is looking Ior a Travelling Financial onsultant who can automate
the travelling particulars and other transactions by using a spreadsheet application. Also, ensure
that the generation oI the report would be a detailed explanation oI how the spreadsheet would be
designed, as there can be Iurther work done on the spreadsheet. Proper documentation oI the
work done in this section must be done in a proIessional manner.

Assume that you have been assigned to work Ior this company in the above mentioned capacity.
Use only Ms Excel and Ms Word. You are to consider making the spreadsheet as user Iriendly
as possible with Iigures that re-compute automatically in years to come. &ltimately, making the
spreadsheet`s Iuture maintenance eIIortless.

Question 1:

Assuming that you going to create the Travelling Financial Analysis Ior October 2010 create a
worksheet according to the Iollowing requirements:
a) Open a new work book. Insert the above given data to TWO (2) diIIerent worksheets.
Note: Enter lient ID, lient First Name, lient Last Name, Package Name and No.
oI Stars into worksheet1 and rename sheet1 tab as ~Client`s Details. Enter lient
ID, heck-in Date, heck-out Date and Package Price ($) into worksheet2 and
rename the tab as ~Client`s Transactions.
b) Enter appropriate column titles and row titles to both tables in each worksheet.
c) olumn titles should be in &pper case, bold and italicized.
d) Format each column according to the right data type.
e) Include a small logo oI the company designed on your own using Ms Word soItware
on the top row oI every worksheets created.
I) Make the spreadsheet presentable.

This section is to determine appropriate formulas oI the listed items. There are various methods
to Iormulate the computations. &se the best methods, which eliminate Iuture maintenance.

a) alculate Tax Ior each client. The tax is calculated based on 0.5 oI Package Price
Ior all packages more than $8,000.00.

i) 3 Star - $380.00/per day.
ii) 4 Star - $790.00/per day.
iii)5 Star - $1550.00/per day
d) Find the Extra Hotel Charges Ior eligible client. The percentages are based on the
number oI days the client is staying at the hotel.
i) 7 on Basic Hotel Price Ior more than 10 days.
ii) 5 on Basic Hotel Price Ior more than 8 days.
iii)1 on Basic Hotel Price Ior more than 5 days.
iv) No extra charge Ior those with less than or equal to 5 days.
e) alculate Surcharge Ior Langkawi Island Packages. lients who purchased
Langkawi Island package incur a surcharge oI 1.5 oI their asic Hotel Price.
I) alculate Discount Ior clients. lients who stay in hotels Ior more than 7 days are

clients.

Insurance, Net Price and Total Price oI all clients.
k) Find the Minimum oI asic Hotel Price, Extra Hotel Charges, Tax, Travel
Insurance, Net Price and Total Price oI all clients.
l) Find the Maximum oI asic Hotel Price, Extra Hotel Charges, Tax, Travel
Insurance, Net Price and Total Price oI all clients.

applicable)

Question 3:

PerIorm the Iollowing tasks;
a) &se the most appropriate Iormatting technique to display the name oI the clients who
have purchased the 'Land oI Hornbill package.
b) &se the most appropriate Iormatting technique to display the name oI the clients who
have purchased the 'ameron Highlands Tour package.

Explain and indicate in workbook the conditions and validations involved to provide inIormation
to the users. Legends will assist users to identiIy the diIIerent conditions and validations.

Also, using the appropriate chart, compare the Package Price and asic Hotel Price Ior each
client. Other suitable charts can be included to Iurther explain the standings oI the company`
incomes gained Irom the package provided.

Question 6:

&se Ms Excel to create the workbook and worksheet(s). You are required to use screenshots and
(or) hyperlinks to your Ms Word document to prepare the Travelling Financial Analysis
Research Paper. Make sure you use an oIIicial document Iormat and it has to be presented neatly.
Extra marks will be given to students who uses own creativity. Documentation should present
the Iollowing, but not only limited to;

Discounts and Total Price and use Ms Word Mail Merge Wizard in order to create a
customized letter to each employee.

Explain as well in your documentation how you able to produce the mail merge using the real
implementation which you did Ior the inIorming letter.

You are to create a rochure or Advertisement to promote Pelangi Travel & Tours. Include

would assist in promoting the company services. reativity and originality will score high points
here. Label out diIIerent Ieatures oI Ms Word which you provide in your brochure into your
documentation.

The advanced Ieatures may include the Ieatures that are not being taught to you in class, as well
as your own Iindings Irom external resources. You may use you own creativity to arrange the

Further expansion oI the business has caused the manager oI Pelangi Travel & Tours to realize
that a database management system will be required to organize all the records involving
company`s clients, packages and hotel`s inIormation.

As a continuation oI your spreadsheet, Pelangi Travel & Tours has decided to hire you to
develop a Travel Database System. The database system is expected to keep track oI client,
packages, and hotel documentations, which are interrelated. The database use Iorms Ior data
entry and produces many reports. Some oI the reports are used to check on the client`s personal
details, packages and tourist guide`s details.

Your task is to create a database according to the instructions given below. The database Iiles are
as per the Iollowing tables. You are to use the best methods to allow ease oI Iuture maintenance

You are required to design a set oI Ms Power Point presentation slides to present the Ms Access
objects created in Question 1 to 4. The slides should consist the Iollowing;

a) Screenshots oI all oI the tables in design view. For each table show the field(s) and the
field properties which has been customized, e.g. fields which were set with
validation, input mask and (or) format.
b) Screenshots oI all oI the Iorms and sub Iorms in form view. For each Iorm or sub Iorm,
limit the display to only show one record in each slide.
c) Screenshots oI all oI the queries in query design view.
d) Screenshots oI reports. Limit to only display 5 best reports.
e) In the slides ensure the Iollowing:

O The slide should have relevant title.
O The background is appropriate Ior the topic. Important: Please do not use the
default templates or the wizard. You are to create your own design template in
Master Slide. Background should be consistent as in master view.
O The pictures / graphics are relevant to the topic oI each slide and paste appropriately,
counterpart with the customized background.
O The Iont size Ior the body oI the slide should not be less than 24 pt.
O There is consistency in each slide in terms oI background, Iont size and type, Iooter
etc.
O There is a variety oI slide layouts within each set with suitable table, charts or clips.

throughout the presentation slides.

Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding oI the Ieatures and Iunctions in Ms OIIice with
detailed evidence displayed during presentation. No errors, such as in Iormulas, were
encountered in the documentation with regard to the usage oI the package. High level oI eIIort
perIormed, exceptional and thorough knowledge and understanding displayed with regard to
Iacilities and services oI the application soItware. The assignment presented in a proIessional
manner, using not only the basic oI the application packages but also various advanced Ieatures.
In order to obtain a grade at this level, the student should be able to present oral arguments in
clear and cogent manner as well as answer most questions conIidently.

Credit
Adequate eIIort conducted with Iair detail oI evidence presented. Moderate level oI
understanding and knowledge displayed with regards to the application soItware. Good level oI
documentation presented. Some level oI understanding was evident in the documentation and
