In general, report text is one type of text that is categorized as "factual texts." This kind of text is often
said as "twin brother" of descriptive text. So that many students are "confused" how to distinguish the
these texts.
1. General classification
The first structure is the first part which contains various general information based on the observations
made by the author, the results of these observations can be in the form of animals, natural
phenomena, plants and other topics in detail.
2. Description
The second structure of the report text is in paragraph two and has the same function as descriptive
text, which is to describe more deeply the details of the author's research results in detail.
1. General nouns, using words that refer to something in general. For example dog, lion, or other
generally non-specific denominators like my dog and so on.
2. Relating verbs or linking verbs, for example is, am, are, look, looks, tastes and so on.
3. Timeless present tense, using simple present tense time markers. usually for example, often, always
and so on.
4. Technical terms, using terms related to the topic or text of the discussion report. For example, if you
make a report text about animals, then in the report text there must be terms or mentions about
animals.
5. Introduction of general groups or aspects, using language that introduces the subject or object of
research in general.
Purpose
Its social purpose is presenting information about something. They generally describe an entire class of
things, whether natural or made: mammals, the planets, rocks, plants, countries of region, culture,
transportation, and so on.
Function
The Report Text Function is used to serves to provide information about an event or situation, after the
investigation and through the multi consideration.
