AEM Upgrade Guide for Appliances, Version 7.0.0.0

About Upgrading AEM 6.9.0.0 to Version 7.0.0.0

Important
Because this upgrade process is complex, it is recommended that you contact your
account representative or the Arbor Technical Assistance Center (ATAC) for assistance
with the upgrade.
You can contact ATAC as follows:
n Phone US toll free — +1 877 272 6721

n Phone worldwide — +1 781 362 4301

n Support portal — https://my.netscout.com

AEM version 6.9.0.0 ran as a virtual machine along with an Edge Defense Manager (EDM)
virtual machine on a single appliance (AEM 7000 and AEM 8000 appliances).

In version 7.0.0.0, you install AEM on an appliance without a virtual machine and without
EDM. Therefore, this upgrade process is more complex than those for previous releases.

Before you begin the AEM upgrade, review the current release notes for any additional
preparations or steps that might be required for this upgrade.

Requirements
Your system must be running the following software versions:
n ArbOS version 7.2-METD on the host VM
This ArbOS version may have been installed with AEM version 6.9.0.0. However, if you
are running an earlier version, then you need to upgrade the ArbOS host VM.
n AEM version 6.9.0.0 on the AEM guest VM
If you are running an earlier version, then you need to upgrade to version 6.9.0.0
before you can upgrade to version 7.0.0.0.
For upgrade instructions, see the AEM 6.9.0.0 Release Notes.

About Upgrading Virtual AEM

If you are using Virtual AEM (vAEM), then follow the procedure for upgrading AEM on a
virtual machine that is not based on an AEM 7000 or AEM 8000 appliance. See “About
Upgrading Virtual AEM” in the Arbor Enterprise Manager Release Notes, Version 7.0.0.0.

AEM Upgrade Guide for Appliances, Version 7.0.0.0

Upgrade Process
During the upgrade, you perform the following tasks:

Upgrading AEM 6.9.0.0 to version 7.0.0.0

Step Description

1 Verify the ArbOS version to determine if you must upgrade the ArbOS host.
ArbOS is the operating system for AEM.

2 If your host system is running an ArbOS version earlier than 7.2-METD, then
upgrade ArbOS on the host VM.
This step is required to properly transfer your existing AEM license to the
native AEM installation.

3 Download the AEM upgrade files.

4 Back up the AEM guest VM. If you have problems during the upgrade
procedure, then you might need to revert AEM to its pre-upgrade state.

5 Upgrade the AEM guest VM to version 7.0.0.0.

This step allows you to back up your data on an AEM 7.0.0.0 installation so
that you can restore it on the native AEM installation. This step and the next
step are important because you must create and restore a backup on the
same AEM software version.

6 Back up the data on the upgraded AEM guest VM. This backup is required so
that you can migrate the AEM data from the AEM guest VM to the native
installation.

7 Install the AEM serial .iso package on the host system.

8 Prepare the appliance for the native AEM installation.

9 Install AEM 7.0.0.0 on the appliance and configure the network settings and
license.

10 Restore the AEM data from the backup.

To begin the upgrade process, perform the following procedures in order.

Verifying the ArbOS Version

1. Log in to the CLI on the host VM with your administrator user name and password.
2. To view the installed packages, enter / system files show
3. Note the ArbOS version that appears under Installed packages.
4. Is the host running ArbOS version arbos 7.2-METD?
n No — Go to “Upgrading the Host ArbOS” on the next page.
n Yes — Go to “Downloading the AEM Upgrade Files” on page 7.

AEM Upgrade Guide for Appliances, Version 7.0.0.0

Upgrading the Host ArbOS

To ensure the proper transfer of your existing AEM license to the native AEM installation,
the ArbOS host must be running version 7.3-MJO8 or later. Version 7.3-MJO8 was installed
with AEM 6.9.0.0.

To upgrade the host ArbOS:

1. Download the following files from the Arbor Technical Assistance Center (ATAC) at
https://my.netscout.com to a location that the AEM host system can access:
n arbos-7.2-METD-x86_64
n comsh-local-kvm-METD-x86_64.tar
For instructions, see “Downloading the AEM Upgrade Files” on the next page.
2. On the host system, log in to the AEM CLI with your administrator user name and
password.
3. Copy the files that you downloaded in step 1 to the AEM host system.
4. To verify that the files are in the correct location on the host, enter / system files
directory disk:
5. Enter / system hardware and make a note of the serial number that the system
displays. You will use this number to verify that it remains the same after the ArbOS
upgrade.
6. To install the ArbOS package, enter / system files install disk:arbos-7.2-
METD-x86_64
The changes to ArbOS will take effect after the next reload.
7. After the package is installed, go to shell and enter the following commands to move
the comsh .tar file:
a. shell
b. mv comsh-local-kvm-METD-x86_64.tar /base/comsh-local-kvm.tar
c. exit
8. To reload the system, enter / reload now
9. After the system reloads, enter the following commands to connect to the AEM guest
system from the host’s shell:
a. shell
b. /base/data/files# telnet localhost 2001:
It might take a few moments for the guest operating system to start.
c. exit
10. At the AEM login prompt, log in to the AEM CLI with your administrator user name
and password.
11. To verify the serial number, enter / system hardware
The serial number should match the one that you noted earlier in this procedure. If
the serial numbers do not match, then contact your account representative.
