BLS REPORT

Basic Life Support, or BLS, generally refers to a level of medical care which can be
provided by trained medical personnel, including emergenc y medical technicians,
paramedics, and by qualified bystanders for victims of life-threatening illnesses or injuries
until they can be given full medical care at a hospital. College of Nursing and Department of
Pediatrics jointly organised one day Basic Life Support session on 22/09/2019 from 9am to
5pm, which was conducted by Indian Academy of Pediatrics, East Zone. Around 31
participants including Nursing Officers working in Pediatric/ Neonatal units and College of
Nursing faculty actively participated and updated their knowledge on Pediatric/ adult BLS,
with appropriate hands on skills.

The sessions were started at 9 .00am, in Mini Auditorium with introductory session
by Dr.Nirmal. Dr. Asha P Shetty, Principal CON welcomed the resource persons and the
delegates. The delegates were divided into two teams and team 1 had sessions on Pediatric
BLS, Foreign Body removal for infants and children in LT 3 class room by Dr. Joseph John,
Dr.Rashmi Ranjan Das and Dr. Koushtam between10-11.30 am. At the same time team 2 had
sessions on adult CPR and Foreign Body Aspiration Removal dealt by Dr. Nirmal, Dr. Pratap
Jena and Dr.BhagiyarathiDiwedi in Mini auditorium.
After the delicious lunch, theoretical and practical evaluatory sessions wereheld for

the delegates and all 31 delegates had successfully completed IAP BLS course. Feedback was

obtained from the delegates and the delegates assured that they shall utilize the skill gained

whenever and wherever needed in the clinical setting and they also addressed that the

programme was highly beneficial to them. At the end of the session, certificate was

distributed to the delegates.

Dr. Asha P Shetty, Principal CON delivered the vote of thanks and the gathering
dispersed at 4.30 pm.
