Driverless Cars

Throughout your entire life, have you ever seen a car without (0) an driver? It sounds
crazy, but (9) this computer-driven driverless cars will soon be filling roads near you.
Companies like Google and Tesla have been (10) design and testing these cars. The
cars have sensors all around which can ‘see’ other cars (11) but obstacles on the road.
Road signs are read by cameras, and satellite navigation systems are (12) use so the car
knows how to get to your destination. All you have to do is (13) typed in the address!
You wouldn’t have to worry about (14) remember directions to where you’re going.
Finally, a central computer system takes in all (15) a information it receives from the
sensors and cameras and processes this to work out when to speed up, brake and steer.
They would also drive (16) most safely than people and don’t get distracted by music
or friends. It is exciting to see what benefits this technology can bring us.

A School Camp

It was SMK Alam Beraja annual camp which was named Youth Camp. The school
prefects were excited to join this camp which was held in the school from 14 to 18
November. Fifty pupils and fifteen teachers took part.

The activities that we carried out were Bridge the Challenge, Protect Your Ship and
Night Walk. Bridge the Challenge was mind-blowing as it tested our mind to solve IQ
problems. The first activity Protect Your Ship was enjoyable. We had to build a ship
using papers to hold an egg inside. The purpose was to drop the ship from a height of
five meters and we have to make sure nothing bad happened to the egg when it landed.
The Night Walk was scary when we passed by some lonely area in school but walking
in a big group helped.

I gained many benefits from this camp. I learned to work together during Bridge the
Challenge. My teammates and I had to pull together to think of solutions quickly. I
also learned how to think out of the box for Protect Your ship. During the Night
Walk, I learned how to trust my teammates.

Since this camp is held every year, I would like to suggest some improvements. The
girls’ area should be closer to toilets instead of them having to walk a few blocks. Fast
food for lunch should be out from the menu. To sum up, the camp was a success and
everyone went home happily.

Read the text and answer the questions that follow.

Choose no more than five words and/or a number from the text for each answer.

The Day That Changed Me

When I was in school, I was terrible at sports but I didn’t mind the long hours on
the field. I had a lot of fun playing games with my friends.

In university, I discovered two new sports which were rugby and tennis. Between
these two sports, I decided to play tennis because it was interesting. However, in my
second year, I stopped going to the court. I only spent my time studying. When I
finally finished my studies, I was extremely unhealthy.

One morning, I thought of going to the gym but I went to the park instead.
While sitting in the park, I watched people run. They were slim and fit. At that
moment, I decided to change my life. I bought myself a pair of running shoes using the
money that I had been saving for a sweater. That evening, I went running around the
park for ten minutes! I was exhausted.

The next evening, I still only did ten minutes, but I didn’t feel as bad as the day
before. After three weeks, I ran for thirty minutes without stopping. Soon, I was
running longer distances and my speed was improving all the time. I could run more
easily.

That was five years ago. I now run eight kilometres almost daily and I love it.
My proudest moment was last year, when I took part in a race and finished it in under
three hours. I’ve also become a trainer, helping beginners with their running
techniques. It gives me a lot of happiness seeing them improve themselves.

I’m fitter now than I’ve ever been, and I’m so glad that I went to sit in the park
that day five years ago.

HARD WORK PAYS OFF

from use.

Unfortunately, she refused to do it. (35) _____. She wanted me to be more responsible.

(37) _____. That amount won’t be enough! Despite that, I didn’t give up easily as I had

neighbourhood, came into my mind. (38) _____. I went from house to house with high
hopes of getting as many newspapers as possible.

Yet, it was still not enough. My next move was to control my spending habit at school.
(39) _____. Surprisingly, I was able to save up more money after I only bought the food
that I really needed, which was enough to keep me full until lunchtime.

My final strategy was to get extra cash from my parents. They agreed but I was
required to do extra chores. (40) _____. After two months of hard work, I finally
