I. TITLE:

Project V.A.R.I.AN.T. S (Virtual Application of Reading Interventions

Affiliating Networks with Teachers and Stakeholders)”. A Tool in Improving
the Reading Ability and Comprehension of Grade 6 pupils in Dabbac
Grande Elementary School.

II. RATIONALE

Cognizant to prevalence of poor comprehension of learners, the

Department of Education has issued the DO 45, S. 2002, otherwise known as
Reading Literacy Program, DO 50, S. 2012, also known as the Guidelines on The
Utilization Of Funds For The Every Child A Reader Program (ECARP) states that the
project “Every Child A Reader Program” (ECARP) and DepEd Memorandum No.
173, s. 2019 entitled “HAMON: BAWAT BATA BUMABASA (3Bs Initiative)”.

At Dabbac Grande Elementary School, it is a common observation that

learners encounter challenges when they are reading, especially if the stories or
articles have follow-up questions. There are some pupils who have been identified
as slow readers; and therefore, their reading ability and comprehension may not
meet the expected standards. Based on the pre-test test result of the Brigada sa
Pagbasa, 8 out of 11 pupils or 72% are slow readers and cannot comprehend to the
reading materials they are reading.

It is in this premise where there is a need to look into possible ways and
means on how the pupils of Dabbac Grande Elementary School may improve their
reading ability and comprehension. The proponent believes that with the Project
V.A.R.I.AN.T. S (Virtual Application of Reading Interventions Affiliating Networks
with Teachers and Stakeholders), pupils reading skills and comprehension will be
improved which will also lead to the improvement of their academic performance.

learning. To make every learner a proficient reader, schools across the country are
tasked to help learners develop their reading skills.
