Short Story
Timmy Baxter was a lonely child. At ten years old, he found it difficult to make friends. He was
shy and preferred reading books about space and science rather than playing soccer or video
games like the other kids in his class. He often imagined himself exploring distant planets and
meeting extraterrestrial beings. Little did he know, his fantasy was about to become a reality.
One quiet evening, as Timmy lay on his bed staring out his window at the starry sky, he noticed
something unusual. A small, glowing object seemed to be moving in a strange pattern, not like
any star or satellite he had ever seen. Intrigued, he ran to his desk, grabbed his telescope, and
peered through the lens.
The object was getting closer and closer until it landed in the field behind his house. Timmy’s
heart raced with excitement and fear. He grabbed a flashlight and slipped out of the house,
careful not to wake his parents. As he approached the field, he saw a small, silver spacecraft,
no bigger than a car, resting gently on the grass.
The door of the spacecraft opened, and out stepped a creature unlike any Timmy had ever
seen. It was small, about the size of a toddler, with smooth, blue skin, large black eyes, and a
friendly, curious expression.
"Greetings," the creature replied, its voice melodic and soothing. "I am Zara from the planet
Aloria. I come in peace."
Timmy's eyes widened in amazement. "I'm Timmy. Why are you here?"
Zara explained that she was an explorer, much like Timmy dreamed of being, and she had been
traveling the galaxy in search of new friends and knowledge. She had intercepted a radio signal
from Earth and decided to visit. Timmy was thrilled to have someone to share his love of space
with, even if that someone was an alien.
Over the next few weeks, Zara and Timmy became fast friends. They met secretly in the field
every evening, where Zara would share stories of her travels and teach Timmy about the
wonders of the galaxy. In return, Timmy told Zara about life on Earth and showed her how to do
things like ride a bike and play chess.
Zara also brought Timmy gifts from her home planet, like glowing crystals and strange, delicious
fruits. Timmy, in turn, gave Zara some of his favorite Earthly treasures, like a jar of fireflies and a
book of fairy tales.
One day, Zara shared some distressing news. "Timmy, I must return to Aloria soon. My mission
is almost complete."
Timmy's heart sank. "But I'll miss you, Zara. You're my only friend."
Zara smiled gently. "I will miss you too, Timmy. But I have an idea. We can be pen pals. We can
send messages through the stars using a special device I will give you."
From her spacecraft, Zara retrieved a small, shimmering device that looked like a cross
between a smartphone and a crystal. She taught Timmy how to use it to send messages across
the galaxy. They exchanged a promise to stay in touch and never forget their friendship.
On her last night on Earth, Zara and Timmy sat in the field, staring up at the stars. "Remember,
Timmy, the universe is vast, and there are many friends to be made," Zara said.
Timmy nodded, holding back tears. "I'll always look up at the stars and think of you, Zara."
With a final hug, Zara boarded her spacecraft and took off, disappearing into the night sky.
Timmy watched until the glowing dot vanished among the stars.
From that day on, Timmy never felt lonely. He had Zara’s messages to look forward to, filled
with tales of her adventures and the wonders of Aloria. In return, he shared his own stories, both
real and imagined, with his alien pen pal.
As the years passed, Timmy grew more confident and made friends at school, but he never
forgot Zara. Their interstellar correspondence continued, a constant reminder that friendship
knows no bounds—not even those of space and time.
And so, the boy who once felt alone now had a friend among the stars, and the stars never
seemed so far away.
