SECTION A; LONG ANSWER QUESTIONS (30 MARKS)

Answer all questions


1 Section 3 (1) of the Pharmacy Act, 2011, states that there is hereby established a
Council to be known as the Pharmacy Council which shall be the sole authority for
Registering, Enrolling and listing of all Pharmacists, Pharmaceutical technician, and
Pharmaceutical Assistants respectively.
a) With reference to the above quoted Section, answer the following questions
i) Describe the composition of the Council (1.5 marks)
ii) Mention the tenure of the Office for the Council Members (0.5 marks)
iii) Mention the Quorum of the Council (0.5 marks)

b) Mention the Pharmacy Committees which shall be established by the Council


and explain briefly the composition and functions of each Committee. (at
least 2)

2. The proliferation of counterfeit medicines in Tanzania is increasing at an


alarming rate resulting on impact on Public Health Care.

(i) What do you understand by “counterfeit” in relation to medicinal


products?
(ii) List three characteristics that could assist you to recognize or
identify counterfeit medicines in your practice.
(iii) What steps do you think are best to be taken to combat this
alarming situation in the country? (10 marks)

3. What does the abbreviation “ALu” stand for?

(i) Give the instruction to an adult patient how to use ALu dose to a
patient diagnosed with Malaria
(ii) What do understand by the terms “shelf life” and “expiration date” of
a medication? Please indicate if there is any difference.

SECTION B; SHORT ANSWERS (40 MARKS)


1. Describe the conditions required for a person to be granted a Temporary registration as a
pharmacist in Tanzania. (5 Marks)
2. Assume that you are a Community Pharmacist serving a private pharmacy in town, please list
down two types of record books you would need and the details of each. (5 marks)

3. In your own words, briefly state three OMISSIONS which may cause a registered person’s
name
to be removed from the register.

4. Briefly explain the factors which guide Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ART) initiation.

5. With at least two examples, what do you understand the term “adverse drug reaction (ADR)”?

6. Define the following terms regarding dosage forms;

(i) Aerosols
(ii) Liniments
(iii) Suspension
(iv) Tablets
(v) Powders

7. Differentiate between:-

(a) Pharmacy Council and Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority(TFDA) (2.5 marks)

(b) Enrollment and registration as per Pharmacy Act,2002 (2.5 marks)

8. A Prescription is to be taken as follows; 1 tablet q.i.d the first day; 1 tablet t.i.d the second
day;1 tablet b. i. d x 5days; and 1 tablet q.d thereafter. How many tablets should be dispensed to
equal a 30-day supply?
