2.2.3. Figure 4 illustrates a simplified layout of an AS GVA Data Infrastructure identifying where the
requirements of this Standard apply. The black boxes represent AS GVA data connection
points that are constrained by this Standard’s data connector requirements. For data
connection points not specifically highlighted in Figure 4, it is desirable, but not mandated, that
these connections also utilise AS GVA compliant connectors. The labels on the connections
describe where this Standard has requirements for data distribution across the AS GVA
Infrastructure.

This figure presents the current position. The future aim is for there to be no legacy applications.

2.4.3. Table 2 details the requirements relating to the Ethernet technologies required by the AS GVA
Data Infrastructure.
compliant vehicle platform and AS GVA ready [sub-system]s and components data
connectors require standardisation.
2.5.2. Different connector orientations are specified in this standard to add physical protection
against the accidental connection of equipment to an incorrect security domain.
2.5.3. Although this standard specifies the connectors to be used, system performance is highly
dependent on the cabling and construction methods for the complete harnesses. MIL-DTL
38999 connectors were not specifically designed for high capacity data transmission.
Subsequently, extreme care needs to be taken in the cable terminations and shielding when
using these connectors. Each vehicle integrator will have a standard for cable harness
construction for their platforms and AS GVA based harnesses should comply as much as
possible with those specifications. However, it may be necessary to deviate from the normal
standards to maintain network data performance.
2.5.4. This standard includes the provision of a high bandwidth, 10 Gigabyte Ethernet fibre optic
based network. This provision is included to facilitate expected future expansion in the volume
of data that is expected to be transmitted within and between vehicle platforms. In particular,
this network would facilitate the uptake of Digital and High definition real-time Video transfer
within and between platforms. The extent to which a 10 Gigabyte Ethernet fibre based
network infrastructure is required and the subsequent accessibility requirements at the AS
GVA Interface panels for this network should be determined during platform design and stated
in the platform FPS.
2.5.5. In order to correctly implement a 10 Gigabyte Ethernet fibred based network, the
specifications of the fibre-optic cable used to implement the network must align with
IEC 60793.
2.5.6. Table 3 details the requirements relating to the Ethernet connectors used in the AS GVA Data
infrastructure.

2.7. Universal Serial Bus Peripheral Device Connections
2.7.1. USB (Universal Serial Bus) is an open industry standard defining the communication
protocols, cabling and connectors between a host computer and other electronic devices. A
common interface facilitates standardisation and interchangeable peripheral devices.
6
2.7.2. Table 5 details the requirements relating to peripheral connection standards attached to the
AS GVA Data infrastructure.
6
A peripheral device is generally defined as any auxiliary device such as, but not limited to, a computer mouse,
keyboard or hand controller that connects to and works with the computer in some way.

[sub-system] publishes typed instances of data-flows called ‘topics’, to which data consumers
can subscribe. A [sub-system] may simultaneously fulfil the roles of data provider and
consumer. A typical DDS application architecture can be represented as a software data bus.
2.11.3. The AS LDM defines a set of data topics for military vehicle applications and standardized
information flows within the AS GVA Electronic architecture. See Part 5 Data Model for more
information on the AS LDM.

3.4.10. To ensure that vehicle power is efficiently managed throughout a mission, the vehicle system
should monitor power demands and alert the crew to unsustainable power demand and

3.4.11. There is similar risk concerning loss of power during Silent Watch operation due to degrading
terminal equipment batteries. Terminal equipment batteries need to operate continuously
during Silent Watch operation.
3.4.12. Table 18 details the requirements relating to AS GVA TE Batteries.
AS_GVA_INF_112 TE Batteries should be able to support Silent Watch at the end of their usable life,
