1. Begin by reviewing with learners what synonyms


and antonyms are.
2. Write the definitions on the board:

● Synonyms: words that have the same or


similar meanings.

● Antonyms: words that have opposite

3. Give examples of synonyms and antonyms, using
simple words that learners are familiar with.
4. Engage learners in a discussion about why
knowing synonyms and antonyms is important for
reading comprehension.
5. Introduce the concept of context clues and how

unfamiliar words.

Reading
1. Choose a picture book or short passage with
simple language that contains examples of
synonyms and antonyms.
2. Read the text aloud to the learners, pausing to

3. Have learners identify and underline or highlight
