Southeast Asia consists of eleven (11) namely: Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam , Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, East Timor,
Brunie and the Philippines. Cultural changes started to affect Southeast Asian Countries long ago with influences from different
neighboring countries especially China.
Despite cultural diversity, evident similarities among Southeast Asian countries are found in their artistic representations. Examples are
their contemporary and emerging performing and visual arts. Theater practices are bound in their cultural identity showing their beliefs
and culture.
1. Khon, Masked Dance Drama in Thailand : is a performing art that combines musical, vocal literary, dance ritual and handicraft elements.
Khon performances which involve graceful dance movements, instrumental and vocal renditions and glittering costumes - depict the glory
of Rama, the hero and incarnation of the God Vishnu, who brings order and justice in the world. (UNESCO)
2. Singkil dance of the Philippines: is a vibrant traditional dance that originated from the Maranao people of Lake Lanao in the Philippines.
It is widely recognized as a royal dance, depicting a prince and a princess gracefully dancing between crisscrossed bamboo poles while the
man manipulates a sword and shield. The dance takes its name from the belled accessory worn by the Maranao princess. (Camus, 2023)
3. Sbek Thom of Cambodia : is a Khmer shadow theatre featuring two meter high, non-articulated puppets made of leather openwork, and
is considered sacred. Dedicated to the divinities, performance could only take place on a specific occasions three or four times a year.

4. Wayang Kulit : is an Indonesian form of Shadow Puppetry, holds the audience's attention with riveting storylines executed masterfully by
the dhalang, or puppeteer. The dhalang tells the stories of kings, princesses, ogres, and knights using deft hand movement and narration.
Many of the plots are drawn from episodes seen in Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. The show could take eight-nine hour-
