Step1. Open the google and type download windows server 2019
and download the file, size would be 4GB.
Step2. Open the Vmware workstation and select on new vmware
in file tab, then a page will open click on next.

Deploying Windows Server domain controllers :

1. Initially set the static IP, gateway and dns for the windows
server 2019.
2. Login through admin and open the local server, click on
manage-add roles & features.

Introducing Windows Server 2019

 Windows server 2019 is the 12th version of windows server

operating system by Microsoft.
 It was announced in the year March 20th 2018.
 Windows server is used for handling the administrative
group related activities on a network.
 Its has 3 editions they are
 Essentials : This is intended for company upto 25
employes and memory is limited.
 Standard : intended for company more than 25
employes and more than 1 server to separate the server
roles.
 Datacenter : this is used for placing multiple vm’s on a
single host machine.

 To access the server software legally the CAL is required,

Cal means Client access license.

Why we use windows server:

 It is designed for server environments.

 Is provides enhanced performance, scalability and
management tools to operate the system.
 It supports a wide range of server applications and it
targets on IT professionals and system administrators.
 It gives robust security measures and supports additional
solutions.
 With the normal windows we can’t handle this many
applications, so we need windows server to handle all this
applications.

AD DS Overview and exercise:

 AD DS abbreviation is Active directory Domain services.

 Active directory is present in the windows server by
default, but it is not present in the client machine.

 AD is a database and it is a set of services that connects

users with the network resource they need to get their
work done.
 Active directory is used for password authentication for
the users and groups to login into the server machine.

Active directory domain services are located at server side that

allows admins to manage and store the data from the network.

Adds also serves to logon with authenticating, if the user or

admin information is there in Active Directory then it allow the
users to login.

How is AD DS used ?
 Active directory is a domain service that runs on Microsoft
windows server.
 It is used for identity and access management.
 Adds stores the information about people, devices and
services connected to the network.
 It acts as a central point of administrator for all activities
runs on corporate network.

How does ADDS work:

 AD DS is a core component of active directory that enables
the users to access resources on the network.
 Adds organizes the objects into hierarchy.

Domains: A group of users and groups that share the same AD

database makes up a domain.

Organizational units : This OU will organize the users and

groups with the domain name.

AD tree : Multiple domains together makes up a AD tree. The

bonds between domains in a tree is called ‘trusts’.

Active directory forest : Multiple AD tree’s together makes a

AD forest.

Services provided by AD DS:

It provides five main services they are

Domain : Domain services stores the centralised directory

information and allow the users and domain to communicate.
Whenever a user wants to connect to device on a network this
will provide the user authentication, verify the user credentials
and access the permissions.

Lightweight directory service (LDP) :

This LDAP is a lightweight directory access protocol searches

for someone or something without the location. Also it provides
a language that servers and clients to communicate in the same
directory.

AD FS : Active Directory Federation Services provides the

single sign-on authentication. It enables to sign in once and
access the multiple applications.

Rights Management : This service controls the data access

polices, rights management determines which folders users can
access.

Certificate services : Certificate services allows the domain

controller to create the digital certificates.

Benefits of AD DS :

1. Flexibility: Users can access the active directory from any

computer on the network.
2. Hierarchical structure : Providing the organisational
information contained in active directory.
3. Single point of access : domain services creates a single
point access to the network resources. This limits the access
point to sensitive resources.
4. Redundancy : AD DS has built in redundancy, if one
domain controller fails other automatically takes over it
responsibilities.

The role of Domain Controllers in AD DS :

Active directory requires at least one Domain controller to

respond to authentication requests and verify the users on
network.

Changes made in one domain controller like password

change or account deletion will replicate to other domain
controller on the network.

Adding Linux client machine into AD

At Linux side
Step1. update the linux with the command.
yum update
Step2. After that we need to install some packages like.
yum install samba* -y
yum install adcli* -y
Step3. Now we have to discover the Domain name of the windows
server with the command, as my Domain name is hpit.com
realm discover hpit.com

Step4. Now we have to add linux machine to domain control of

hpit.com , it will ask you to enter the window server admin
password(shoot@123)
realm join hpit.com

Step5. Hence completed, now you can check the linux machine in the
windows server 2019. As my linux hostname was Marredpally, it will
shown in windows.

Implementing Group Policy

The group policy (GPO) is a configuration features given to user and
computers. We have many features in GPO like remove time clock
etc. we can create our own group policy and can be added to other
users in the windows server.

Step1. Go to tools and select Group policy management.

Step2. Click on forest > Domains > hpit.com > group policy objects,
you can see two GPO’s on the right side.

Step3. We can create our new group policy like I have created a
‘Sample GPO’.

Step5. Right click on sample gpo, go to edit option, then we can on

Deploying Distributed File System (DFS)

Step1. Download the dfs feature by clicking on add roles.

Step2. Select the DFS Namespace and click on next.

Step6. Open the DFS management.

Step7. Right click on namespace and create new namespace.

Step16. After run command, the folder will open but its empty.

Step18. So we have spiderman in dfs roots folder.

Step19. Right click on hpit namespace and select the new folder
option.

Step24. Now we can see that Akhil shared files are shown in
urgent data namespce. DFS will contain all shred volumes
