5.1 How to Connect Power Supply Input Cable / Protective Earthing Cable
Before connecting the power supply cable, check the rated voltage of the power supply module.
If the voltage supplied is out of the specified range, it may result in malfunction of the product, fire
or injury
When connecting a cable to the power supply module terminal, always use a round solderless
terminal with insulating coating with its size designated.
Always attach the power supply module terminal block cover to prevent electric shock.
Do not use any unused terminal on the power supply module terminal block.
When the ambient temperature is 60C or more, use a cable of with the coating temperature rating
of 75C or more.
When connecting cables, connect the protective earthing cable at first. When disconnecting cables,
disconnect the protective earthing cable at last. After disconnecting the cables, connect them back
exactly as it was connected before.

Point
Make sure that there are no foreign objects in the connector before connecting. If the connector has any
foreign object in it, it may cause a bad connection and so on.
Do not connect LAN cables to existing networks (such as in-house LAN).
For additional use of a repeater (relay) or optical converter, refer to the respective product manuals.
Use a LAN cable with a length of 100 m or shorter. Using a cable longer than 100 m may cause the
signals unstable.
If you need to relay longer than 100 m, be sure to take some measures such as using
power-supply HUB.
The LAN cable should be laid down with enough space for other power and control lines.
IP address of each module must set for it not to overlap beforehand when you connect two or
more monitors on the same network. Please set the IP address according to the network
administrator's instruction. That may have an effect on other networks.
34

The terminating resistor must be set for the VM-742B network communication module located at the end of the
daisy-chain connection. As shown in the figure below, turn ON the terminating resistor on the monitor located at
the end of the network. The terminating resistor for other devices must be turned OFF.
You can turn ON or OFF the terminating resistor by using the switch for terminating resistor located on the main
board of this module. The switch type differs by the board. Check the board number on the main board and set
the switch. For more information, see "Appendix B Connection via Modbus/RTU (VM-742B)" of the
VM-742B&VM-742 network communication module manual.
Communication may not work properly if the terminating resistor is not set correctly.
If communication is performed via two channels (primary and secondary channels), set the
terminating resistor on the main board of each one of them.

43
VM-7B & VM-7 System Manual Chapter 6 Maintenance and Service
The VM-75B & VM-75 power supply module uses a fuse with the limited service life.
The service life of the fuse is generally described as 5 to 6 years when continuously used at 70 to 80% of the
rated value. However, it is recommended to replace the fuse every 3 years for safety allowance considering the
following conditions:
Due to a continuous current flow, increase in the surface temperature coincides with increase in the
temperature caused by the peripheral parts releasing heat. As a result, oxidation reaction is stimulated,
deteriorating the fuse. In addition, a chemical reaction is facilitated under a gas atmosphere, deteriorating the
fuse.
Due to in-rush current or surge current of the line generated by power activation/shutdown during
maintenance or adjustment task, the fuse deteriorates gradually.
Deterioration of the fuse is accelerated due to vibration or impact.
After replacing the fuse, contact the sales office you purchased the product from if any of the
following occurs.
Continued use of the product under any of the conditions below may result in fire or malfunction.
44
VM-7B & VM-7 System Manual Chapter 6 Maintenance and Service
VM-75B power supply module uses an aluminum electrolytic capacitor. The service life of the aluminum
electrolytic capacitor is limited which depends on the conditions of use. Considering the preventive maintenance,
it is recommended to replace the power supply modules below with new ones on a 5-year cycle.
To remove and attach the module, follow the steps described in "Chapter 4 Installing the Product
onto the Control Panel".
When removing the power supply module while the VM-7 monitor is running, be sure to activate
another power supply module, or the monitor will stop.
