2.1 System Outline
VM-7B & VM-7 monitor is a system which provides full-time on-line monitoring of various rotating
machineries.
Signals transmitted from the sensor installed to rotating machineries are input to the monitor module.
When signals from the non-contact transducer, acceleration transducer, and the sensor transducer, including
thermocouple and resistance temperature detector, are received, the system processes the signals according to
each monitoring parameter. In addition, it has the monitoring functions such as measured value output and alarm
contact output.
The measurement values of each monitor module can be displayed and monitored on a display PC.

3.2 Restrictions on Instrument Rack Installation

There is a vent hole on the top as well as the bottom side of the instrument rack for a natural draft cooling effect.
In the case that these vent holes are blocked, the temperature inside the instrument rack will go up and result in
a shortened life of the electronic components.

 Install the instrument rack in a room, avoiding rain, water, and direct sunlight.
 Do not block the vent holes if the instrument rack is to be placed inside the panel.
 Do not place any object within 200 mm above or under the instrument rack to secure adequate
airflow for cooling.
 Do not place any equipment which emits heat under the instrument rack.

In the case that the instrument rack is installed into a closed panel, the temperature inside the instrument rack
may go up and result in a drastically shortened life of the electronic components.

 Install a fan, etc. to actively cool the rack.

 If the size of the closed panel is small, use forced-air cooling apparatus such as an electron
cooler to keep the inside temperature down.

6.1 Power Supply Module
6.1.1 Replacing the Fuse

The VM-75B & VM-75 power supply module uses a fuse with the limited service life.
The service life of the fuse is generally described as 5 to 6 years when continuously used at 70 to 80% of the
rated value. However, it is recommended to replace the fuse every 3 years for safety allowance considering the
following conditions:

 Due to a continuous current flow, increase in the surface temperature coincides with increase in the
temperature caused by the peripheral parts releasing heat. As a result, oxidation reaction is stimulated,
deteriorating the fuse. In addition, a chemical reaction is facilitated under a gas atmosphere, deteriorating the
fuse.
 Due to in-rush current or surge current of the line generated by power activation/shutdown during
maintenance or adjustment task, the fuse deteriorates gradually.
 Deterioration of the fuse is accelerated due to vibration or impact.
