SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION / ARAHAN KHUSUS

Part II / Bahagian II

Part II requires you to perform an oral presentation to defense your research proposal (Part 1).
Discuss with your eTutor to determine the date and time for the presentation via online.(i.e
Google Meet)

The presentation will be allotted 20 minutes total. You should speak for approximately 15
minutes, and allow 5 minutes for question and answer. Prepare visual aids in the form of Power
Point. Your final Power Point slides need to be prepared in hardcopy (2 PP slides per page)15 – 20
slides and submit to your eTutor on the day of presentation, for her/his perusal.

The language of choice can be in English or Malay.

The evaluation of this presentation is using the Rubric Assessment Tool as in Attachment. Please
refer.

The actual deadline for presentation will be notified by the eTutor.

Guidelines for Preparation of Power Point Slides and Presentation

An oral presentation requires both an auditory and a visual component. Your presentation slides
will complement what you will be presentating. The following guidelines will help you prepare
proper and good quality power point slides, and deliver your presentation smoothly.

1. Text
● Font size - make all text as large as possible; no less than 28. Exceptions, (however, try
to use font no less than 20 if possible) for references or subtitles on graphs or pictures.
● Font style - Arial or Times New Roman, using the same font style throughout.
● Colors - depends upon background choices. (Refer below).

● Number of words - a good rule of thumb is less than 40 words per slide. This would
allow the average reader to take in the text in around 12 seconds and then concentrate
their attention back on the speaker. A text-heavy slide is distracting and might take the
attention of your audience away from what you are saying.

2. Backgrounds
● Use a simple, pleasing background. Examples: dark blue grading to light blue; yellow
print.
● Simple repeated graphic on the left side; white background and black print (as
necessary).
● Avoid a background with many lines, many colors, or many shades of one color.

● DO NOT USE ANIMATED BACKGROUNDS; they are distracting to the audience.

3. Practice
● You must practice (aloud) several times so that you will be confident and stay within the
time limit.
● You may want to write your speech out (entirely) beforehand to make sure that you can
make your points clearly and that you make smooth transitions.
● Practice as much as possible to achieve an easy delivery.

● Do not read your text or memorize it.

● Know as much about your subject area as possible.

4. Presentation
● Speak slowly. Do not assume that audience will figure anything out by themselves.

● Make eye contact with the audience and interact with your slides.

● Deliver your presentation with an outline based on your written text, so that you will
not read (and bore the audience), but can find your place if you get lost.
● You may want to have your Introduction and Conclusion written in full (but
summarized) so that you can get through it smoothly.

5. Question & Answer Session


● You should handle the Question & Answer session attentively; answer clearly and
concisely.
● Nevertheless, if you do not know the answer, say so.
