Australian made Ecoply® structural plywood is a layered panel made from Australian pine wood veneers
manufactured by Carter Holt Harvey Plywood Pty Limited (CHH Plywood AU) to the requirements of
AS/NZS 2269. Adjacent layers (veneers) are bonded together with synthetic phenolic (PF) resin set and cured
under heat and pressure in controlled conditions to form a strong and durable Type A bond. The veneers are
typically at right angles to each other to deliver two-way strength and stability.
Ecoply structural plywood, designed in accordance with Verification Method B1/VM1 or specified in accordance
with Acceptable Solutions E2/AS1 and B1/AS1 is suitable for use as structural panels within structural systems
designed and specified by engineers and other suitable design professionals. Ecoply structural plywood is to be
installed in accordance with the specifications and details provided by design professionals.
The durability of Ecoply plywood products should be detailed by qualified design professionals to meet the
requirements of New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) Durability Clause B2.
Australian made Ecoply is available in F11/F8 stress grade in a range of surface appearance grades including CD
and DD and is available untreated and H3.2 CCA treated.
Product Identifier:
All Australian manufactured Ecoply structural plywood sheets are marked in accordance with the requirements
of AS/NZS 2269, and include the brand name Ecoply®. An example of treated plywood is given below.

Ecoply structural plywood, designed in accordance with NZS 3603 or as specified in E2/AS1 or NZS 3604,
assists in meeting the following provisions of the NZBC:
• Ecoply structural plywood, CCA Treated Ecoply plywood must not be installed in direct contact to steel
frames.
• Appropriate clearances to ground must be provided to meet durability requirements as detailed by design
professionals.
• Please refer to the current “Ecoply Specification & Installation Guide” for information, limitations, and
cautions regarding the storage, handling, installation, usage, and maintenance of Ecoply structural plywood.
Design requirements that would support the appropriate use of the building product:
Ecoply structural plywood, designed in accordance with Verification Method B1/VM1 or specified in accordance

designed and specified by engineers and other suitable design professionals. Ecoply structural plywood is to be

Span Tables within the Ecoply Specification and Installation Guide have had design completed in accordance with
NZS 3603 (verification method B1/VM1, 6.1). Serviceability and other criteria were selected using guidelines
available from joint Australian / New Zealand standards technical committees as appliable.
Bracing Capacities, determined in accordance with P21 testing methods, are published for use in conjunction
with bracing demand determined in accordance with NZS 3604 (P21 tests form part of an Acceptable Solution
of NZS 3604, (Acceptable Solution B1/AS1, 3.1)).
Installation requirements:
Ecoply structural plywood must be installed in accordance with good building practice, sound design principles,
and in accordance with the specifications and installation details provided within the current “Ecoply
Specification & Installation Guide” or by the engineer and/or other qualified design professionals as applicable.

Maintenance Requirements:
Ecoply structural plywood components will not normally require maintenance. However, in circumstances
where coatings have been applied, maintain in accordance with coating manufacturers requirements.

Further to the minimum regulatory requirements for Building Product Information Sheets, CHH Plywood AU
also provides the following additional information in relation to Quality Assurance, Sustainability, Service Life and
Product Support.
Quality Assurance:
CHH Plywood AU has strict quality assurance processes in place to monitor that Ecoply is manufactured in a
manner that meets both the structural and visual requirements of the specific product.
Ecoply is independently third party audited by the EWPAA. The EWPAA certifies Ecoply manufactured by
CHH Plywood AU at its Myrtleford mill.
Participation and compliance with the requirements of the EWPAA’s process based quality control scheme
includes product testing and monitoring of properties. It provides the basis for the EWPAA’s Product
Certification of Ecoply as conforming to the requirements of AS/NZS 2269.
Sustainability:

CHH Plywood AU uses waste handling procedures to optimise recovery and manage the creation of arisings.
This starts with the use of only radiata pine sourced from sustainably managed renewable plantations and
includes the application of optimisation algorithms for veneer peeling to enhance finished goods recovery.
Service Life:
Ecoply Structural Plywood will continue to satisfy the relevant performance requirements of the NZBC for 50
years (or other time periods as specified by the designer relative to the specific project) provided that all of the
requirements set out in this Product Technical Statement and the specific design parameters of the project
are satisfied.
