Image Editing
Glossary:
1. Souvenir: Something you keep or give to remember a special visit or event.
2. Collage: A collection of different photos displayed as a single image.
3. GIMP: A free and open-source raster graphics editor used for image manipulation
and image editing.
4. Scaling: It refers to the resizing of a digital image.
5. Canvas: The window in which the picture is created or edited.
6. GIF: Graphics Interchange Format.
7. JPEG: Joint Photographic experts group.
8. PNG: Portable network graphics.
9. Resolution: Number of pixels along the width and height of a display screen.

Q 1. List the ways of image editing.
Ans 1: Image editing is typically done in two ways:
• Changing the image by adjusting the attributes like size, colour, contrast, etc.
• By adding new attributes like shapes, text or new images.
Q 2. Rohit wants to set the canvas area as per the desired size. What are the steps he
should follow to complete this task?
Ans 2: Following are the steps he should follow to complete this task
1. From the Image option on the menu bar, select Scale Canvas.
2. In the pop-up window, enter the desired width and height of the canvas and click OK. The
canvas is set to the new size.
Q 3. What are the steps to add text to an image in an image editing software?
Ans 3: Following are the steps to add text to an image in an image editing software
1. Click Paste Text on the toolbar.
2. In the pop-up window, enter the text to be inserted. Also select the font, font size and style.
Then click Paste Text.
3. The typed text appears in the middle of the image.
4. Drag the text box and place it where you want. Then either right-click the mouse or press
the Enter key on the keyboard. The text is now placed in the desired spot.
Q 4. List some image file formats.
Ans 4: Commonly used image formats are GIF, JPG and PNG.
• Most images which use limited colours are saved in the PNG format. PNG files are of
smaller size and hence quicker to download.
• GIF files can be saved with a maximum of 256 colours. Due to the small file size, it is a
widely used format for images on the Internet.
• JPG file format supports millions of colours. Hence, photographs are best saved in JPG
format.

1. Sonu, a student of class 7 wants to edit some of the pictures of his birthday party. He
is not well versed with the image editing software. Can you help him in doing the task
by creating the flowchart, including drawing the icons of the tools required for it?

2. Transform colour: Take an image with bright colours. From the menu bar, click Effects
and select the Transform Colour option.
(a) Explore all the sub-options. For each sub-option, save the image with a value of your
choice and give it a caption. Put all the saved images on a page with the captions and give
a title to the page.
(b) For each of the following options, mention what happens when the given values are
set. Give a brief explanation for the same.
