This question paper consists of three sections A,B and C. Candidates are required to attempt all
questions from Section A and all questions EITHER from Section B or from Section C.
Section A: Internal choice has been provided in two questions of two marks each, two questions of four
marks each and two questions of six marks each.
Section B: Internal choice has been provided in one question of two marks and one question of four
marks.
Section C: Internal choice has been provided in one question of two marks and one question of four
marks.
All working, including rough work, should be done on the same sheet as, and adjacent to the rest of the
answer.

You will not be allowed to write during the first 15 minutes.

circles; it is required to find the rate per second at which the area of one of them is
enlarging when its diameter is 12 cm, supposing the wave to be then receding from the
centre at the rate of 3 cm/sec.

(a) An insurance company insured 1500 scooter drivers, 2500 car drivers and 4500 truck
drivers. The probability of a scooter, a car and a truck driver meeting with an accident
is 0.01, 0.02 and 0.04 respectively. If one of the insured persons meets with an
accident, find the probability that he is a scooter driver.

(b) It is known that 60% students in a college reside in hostel while remaining 40% are
day scholars. 30% of all students who reside in hostel attain 𝐴 grade and 20% of day
scholars attain 𝐴 grade. If one randomly chosen student has 𝐴 grade, what is the
probability that he lives in the hostel?

(a) From a list containing 30 items, 4 of which are defective, 4 are chosen at random.

items are chosen without replacement. Also find the mean and the variance.

(b) Four bad eggs are mixed with ten good ones. If three eggs are drawn one by one without

(a) A television manufacturer finds that the total cost for producing and marketing 𝑥 television sets

Determine the break even points.

(b) If total cost function is given by 𝐶 = 𝑎 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐𝑥 2 , where 𝑥 is the quantity of output,

Find the variance of 𝒚 and the coefficient of correlation.
Question 22 [4]
(a) A mill owner wants to buy two types of machines 𝐴 and 𝐵 for his mill. Machine 𝐴
occupies 1000 sq.m of area and requires12 men to operate; while machine 𝐵 occupies 1200
sq.m of area and requires 8 men to operate it. The owner has 7600 sq. m of area available
and 72 men to operate the machines.
If machine 𝐴 produces 50 units and machine 𝐵 produces 8 units daily, how many machines
of each type should he buy to maximize the daily output?
(Use linear programming to find the solution.)
OR
(b) A man has ₹ 1500 for purchase of rice and wheat. A bag of rice and a bag of wheat cost
₹180 and ₹120 respectively. He has storage capacity of 10 bags only. He earns a profit of
₹ 11 and ₹ 9 per bag of rice and wheat respectively.
Formulate a Linear Programming Problem and solve it to maximize the profit.
