6 General Information

Time and number of persons

The complete installation and startup of the “magnification table” require about 4 hours.
The upgrade can be performed by one person.
Additional time must be calculated for performing the acceptance tests or constancy test
according to the national regulations.

Acceptance test
It is recommended that the MAMMOMAT Inspiration acceptance test be performed when-
ever a new MAMMOMAT Inspiration system has been installed and changes that might
affect performance have been made to an existing system.
The MAMMOMAT Inspiration acceptance test includes all QA procedures in this Quality
Control Manual in order to ensure that a basic minimum image quality criterion is met
before the system is used with patients.
All annual tests from the Quality Control Manual must be performed.
Additional tests must be performed in accordance with the applicable regulations in the
country where the system is installed.
• Tests according to §16 of the X-ray Ordinance must be performed in Germany.
• In the USA, tests must be performed in accordance with the DHHS.

Checking the snap-fit of the magnification table 2.2

The snap-fit of the magnification table can be adjusted to ensure correct fit on the object
table.
1. Guide the magnification table over the object table until the very end.
¹ The snap-fit on each side (left and right) locks.
¹ If the MAG table is not securely attached, perform the steps under “Adjusting the
snap-fit”.

Adjusting the snap-fit 0

1. Loosen the two screws of the snap-fit on each side of the table.

Collimator alignment for magnification 3.2

Required equipment 0

- All compression paddles delivered

Adjusting collimation size: 0

1. Guide the magnification table over the object table to the end (magnification mode).
2. Open the MammoUnit web service interface “Collimator”.
¹ The current collimation parameter can be found under “Details”.

NOTE Make a note of the correct parameter to avoid another adjust-

ment in case of malfunction!

3. Register a new service test patient “Collimator” with procedure QC raw and, for exam-
ple, 20 PVs with LCC.
4. Select manual mode with 26KV, 5mAs, and Mo/Mo.
5. Insert the biggest available paddle for magnification.
X 6. Expose one image and wait until it is displayed.
7. Select “Image/Inverse” from the UI.
8. Change the window level (brightness and contrast) so that the blades of the collimator
are visible. If necessary, use the “zoom from point” function to display all sides (chest
wall, left, right, rear) in detail.
¹ Check whether the blades of the collimator are visible (chest wall, left, right, rear).
¹ Remember that the edges of the paddle plate may be visible in the image!
Remove the plastic from the frame if necessary.
9. Using the MammoUnit web service interface/collimator, set the blades (chest wall, left,
right, rear) with the “In” buttons so that all the blades will be visible in the next exposed
image.
Perform the following steps:

- Set "Select lamellae to set" to “Moly small” in the MU service menu.

- Move the blades with “Step size”: Large, medium, small, or single.
X - Release an exposure then change the collimation again until all blades are visible.

Large 100 5
Medium 50 2.5
Small 10 0.5

10. Now open the collimation (chest wall, left, right, rear) again (stepwise) so that the
blades will not be visible (fine adjustment) in the next exposed image.
¹ The X-ray/light field can have a misalignment (sum of misalignments on opposite
sides) which may not exceed 2% of SID (13 mm).
X 11. Repeat adjustment steps 4-10 with target W/Rh. In that case for "Select lamellae to
set", select: “Tungsten small” in the MU service menu.
X 12. Now check all available paddles for magnification, insert a paddle, release an expo-
sure, and ensure that no collimator blades are visible. Otherwise, repeat the adjust-
ment according to steps 4-10 for the specific target.
